This anime really surprised me. I wasn't expecting much but it had a really interesting story with likeable characters. It reminds me a lot of Yugioh and apparently this anime is based off of a real card game which I thought was cool. I enjoyed it a lot and would recommend it to fans of Yugioh or anime fans that are intrigued by the premise!
I took a gamble when I bought season 1 of this series. After watching that, season 2 couldn't get to my door soon enough. It's dark, it's gorgeous, it's well worth your time.
This is just going to be a quick, short review; I have my full review on MyAnimeList @ [...] if you'd like to read it. Basically, there's one thing that WIXOSS excels in over other series' that try to do the same thing: it's a complete deconstruction of such a fickle genre that rarely goes beyond the boundaries that it set for itself many, many years ago. That genre is the card-game subgenre. Other anime that try to do the same thing, such as Madoka Magica, have obvious flaws behind their series compositions in that they only deconstruct certain ASPECTS of the genre. They end up keeping most of the same tropes and use them in ways that aren't deconstructive at all, while only going beyond the norm of the genre for certain tropes. Plus, those types of anime end up reverting back to normal in the end, not keeping their path of deconstruction going and returning to safety as a sort of cop-out, instead of attempting to write something good to keep the series on its own path that it, itself, created all the way until the end. That's hard to do, but WIXOSS also does it quite well, granted it's not 100% finished yet but so far, nothing's been reverted back to normal as things normally are. And I doubt they will be, if we're being honest here. Overall, that one thing is what makes WIXOSS such a great anime, better than others of its kind and incredible regardless of that fact. It IS very confusing at times, and the second season especially can be EXTREMELY hard to understand at times. But, if you're able to put in some brainpower to understand all of it, you will be mind blown and will end up loving the series as much as I did. And yes, the second season is better than the first. The first is still great as well, but the first mostly sets the stage for the second season, and end up being a lot like the anime I described above; just a deconstruction of certain aspects of the card-game subgenre. The second season continues the legacy and creates a deconstruction that's absolutely perfect at what it needed to be, which is what makes it better than the first season. Of course, these aren't the only reasons why the second season is better than the first, and these aren't even CLOSE to the only reasons why Selector Spread WIXOSS, and the WIXOSS series as a whole, are both so good. Those are explained in my full review that I linked above. Regardless, if you're looking for a good deconstruction anime to pick up, WIXOSS is virtually the greatest recommendation you can get from me, so I recommend you go with it. Thanks for reading!
Love it! Would say its for 14 or over tho. Its got some more darker subjects. I really enjoy the storyline tho and it always kept me on edge of whats gonna happen next.

Time has passed since the last battle. The girls have their thoughts on what happened, and what needs to be done. The fate of WIXOSS begins again.
Ruko is troubled over using Iona, and of committing to battle. Meanwhile, Ulith connects with Akira, bringing her back to the WIXOSS scene once again.
Tama speaks with Mayu with intent of wanting to return back to Ruko. Mayu agrees to her wish, leading to a reunion with Ruko in the most unlikely way.
With the many mysteries surrounding WIXOSS, the girls set sight on the writer of the WIXOSS novel, seeking information on the secrets of WIXOSS.
Ruko battles against Fumio, leading to a new revelation for WIXOSS. After battle, Fumio asks a question that brings about a strange feeling to Iona.
After meeting with Fumio, Ruko renews her resolve of wanting to correct the wrongs of WIXOSS. Ulith has her own agenda, and whispers words to Akira.
Mayu watches the battle between Ruko and Ulith with interest. But upon Iona's words of revelation, Mayu's expression turns to that of displeasure...
Hearing of a way to save the girls of WIXOSS, Ruko gains hope, only to instigate Ulith's lust for destruction. Ulith utters the word "Grow," and...

It's exhausting to watch this. As with the first, the story elements have a horrifying edge, showing a darker side to the characters. Here we are in season two, though, and I don't find the whining main characters, twisted motivations, nor tiresome drama interesting. All of these were in the first, but to have to deal with it a second time? It was very difficult to get through this, and it didn't feel at all rewarding. I like the more serious take on card battles, but there is just so much that is unlikable that I'm done at this point. Otherwise, good animation and voice acting.

A great sequel to an already strong series and a great conclusion to the story started in season one. Selector Spread WIXOSS takes all of the areas in which the first season was lacking and addresses it to create an all-round great anime. Now I will concede that the anime's card battles are not entirely loyal to how the card games play's but if you go into this anime not knowing the rules like me I grantee you this will not impact your view of the series.
All in all, I strongly recommend watching this series.
