There’s lots of fun banter as the H/h become closer. The heroine is holding out for love, but the hero’s butler actually has the best advice to the heroine – that hero’s not a man of words, but rather of actions. It’s all very sweet as the hero realizes just what he feels for the heroine. I agree with Jenny that it is crying out for an epilogue. We do know the heroine is going to work with the hero as a researcher instead of as a secretary, but a glimpse of their domestic life with that nice butler and a baby or two would have been the cherry on this fluffy sundae.

A great read! Jane Porter can write sweet and sexy like no other. The heroine was romantic, funny and I kept wondering how her boss managed to resist her for so long. He was a very sexy hero as well. All he wanted was a safe boring marriage with his shy secretary but he got more than he bargained for. And that was true love. Only thing missing was a great epilogue...

Then he finds out she is in love with them and takes her away where we see the fun side of Winnie come out. Morgan wants to be fair to her and he is. I liked how Winnie stuck to what she wanted, love. Morgan was sweet and caring, helping her see that she is perfect and he sees beneath. Totally lovable characters and story even though I am not a fan of unrequited love.

I'm on a Jane Porter glom lately. Once more, loved the book! I love Jane's voice and style. This was a great story with a tough, sexy alpha male and a heroine who could be someone you know. Winnie isn't perfect or gorgeous or confident, but she figures out that she doesn't have to be those things to get the gorgeous guy in the end. This woman does not compromise, and I loved that. I am a Jane Porter fan!

I didn't like it - I loved the heroine in the last Jane Porter book I read - she was pretty strong. This heroine was a wimp - a real doormat. A waste of money and time. The premise was ok and so was the character development but the idea of putting up with all in the name of love just put me off the book - it was not that the hero was a jerk - he was really quite a nice guy but....

I love love love this book. I'm not sure why since this really should be like other secretary books where the woman barely puts up a fight when her boss sets out to seduce her. I suppose what really saves this book is Winnie. She's wonderful. I adore her. She's so sweet and earnest and reasonable. She's very honest and there's no artifice about her; she says what she means. She is the perfect secretary: on top of her job and professional - even though she's in love with her boss. She hides her feelings very well behind her professionalism, and when she realizes that her feelings are driving her crazy, she decides to interview for another job instead of staying and pining until she's old and gray. She has no ego but she does have self-respect. When she realizes that she can no longer remain professional with her boss, she takes the initiative to leave. Of course Winnie's decision to leave is not something Morgan is happy about. In fact, he tries his best to prevent her from leaving but because he's not a total jerk, he does eventually acknowledge that Winnie has the right to interview for another job if she wants to. Morgan really likes Winnie, as both his secretary and as a person. When he proposes to her it's because he trusts her and probably subconsciously realizes that he can be vulnerable to her. Morgan is a really hard worker who doesn't buy into his own press about how amazing he is. His past is rather dark but he really does overcome the worst of it to become a successful person, but it does leave him rather cynical about life and romantic relationships. He is very private and he finds all the hoopla made over his status as a handsome bachelor wearying. This and the desire to stop women in their tracks about pursuing a relationship with him is what pushes him to propose to Winnie. This intelligent and capable man was going to Winnie to use her as a shield against everyone interested in him. It's really cute when you realize that Morgan needs Winnie more than Winnie needs Morgan, despite her being in love with him. The interactions between Winnie and Morgan go between serious and sexy to exasperating and funny. Winnie can be rather silly at times and when she's emotional, she's really turned upside down, and Morgan can just be so sweet and protective. The only thing that really bugged me about this book was how Winnie's apartment got trashed. I felt like the author never really tied up that loose end. Otherwise, a great book and definitely worth rereading.

THE SECRETARY’S SEDUCTION by Jane Porter Winnie Graham was to wed Morgan Grady, the contract was signed and as she started down the aisle with 450 looking on and with her $40k dress, never mind the other adornments, she turned and left the church and got into a cab. She just wasn't in love with him and it was to be a business arrangement that she wanted out of. The story goes back to the beginning when she worked for him as his personal assistant secretary. He found her crying one day and she opened up to tell him she had fallen in love with one at work but the man didn't even know she existed. She was set to go to another job interview in SC on Friday and her boss had told the employer that she was the best secretary he ever had. He told her he'd fire them and she didn't tell him because of the business call he had to take... When he was named Man of the Year she signaled him at the elevator to escape and he did. She flew for her job interview and he was waiting for her when she got back into NY and took her in the limo to dinner. They were the only customers after they got in and she was terrified when the cameraman took their picture. He had an idea that might work for them both: marry him. The story also tells what he's feeling, his past life and how this is the second time a woman left the aisle on their way to wed him. He caught up with her and they headed to where they were to honeymoon: the island of St. Jermaine. Just hearing about all the luxuries and detailed descriptions made me think of warmer weather. So cozy and breathtaking... She really does love him but ...She wanted him to teach her about all kinds of things that she didn't know about. He is capable of that and then some... She jumps to conclusions many times more in the book that in her mind proves he doesn't love her at all...

He proposes a MOC to evade constant media attention, she agrees but then literally leaves him at the altar. He then takes her to his private island in the Bahamas, one thing leads to another (i.e. OK level of smut) after they go skinny-dipping but she is extremely high-strung and keeps hysterically insisting on wanting love. They return to NYC, there's some ow drama, the h leaves to travel on her own and matures enough to recognize what's what. HEA. (hide spoiler) ] This might have been a first in my history of reading romance but I found the h almost too off-putting. She kept whining about wanting the H to LOVE her in a very narrow, romantic way. While he proposed a MOC, it was quite unusually motivated (for HPlandia): he wanted "normal", a genuine relationship based on "respect, admiration, friendship", not because of revenge/business merger/other such silly plot point. Also, it rubbed me the wrong way how easily she accepted rather exessive material support from the H, especially when he bought her an apartment. She was somewhat redeemed at the end when she decided to go after the H; nevertheless, this was after refusing him for the upteenth time for not LOOOVING her in the way that she wanted. Plus points for supporting characters (would have loved more of H's mother) and a well-written (i.e. not too cringe-inducing) ending and epilogue. story: 3/5 characters: 3/5 (the h was a 2 at best: she was irrational, silly and whiny while the H was - at least compared to her - above average for a HP guy) dialogues: 3-/5 (because of her; his dialogues were actually above-average) angst: 4/5 (dtto plus unnecessary ow drama) steaminess: 3/5

At first she's flattered and okay with the idea, but then she realizes that she's settling for less than she deserves and flees their wedding. He chases after her, takes her to a private island where he proceeds to show her that love is not at all necessary for a passionate and happy marriage. But Jane still wants more...she wants Morgan to be in love with her. But Morgan continues to insist that the kind of love she's looking for doesn't exist, that she should be content with friendship and love (just not romantic love). I think I leaned towards a 3.5 for this. Morgan was kind of my favorite character here. He's darker, certainly not your average jet-setting tycoon, he's not quite as sophisticated and smooth with the ladies. But he's also absolutely clueless about human emotion. I liked Winnie and Morgan, but was a bit frustrated by their constant inability to really explain themselves. Winnie, I thought was very open about wanting love - romantic love, like she feels for Morgan. But Morgan constantly finds himself asking, "What does she want?" And Winnie tells him the same thing but he's still left scratching his head in confusion. But pretty soon, there comes a time when Winnie has turned Morgan away again and she looks at her relationship and realizes that she's being an idiot. She loves Morgan and she's able to recognize that Morgan must love her but doesn't see it - so she has to fight for him and get him to see what she sees. So I liked that bit of conclusion.

Morgan for being this person who I've come to believe as someone who loves deeply and yet cannot, would not admit that it was love until the last moment. Winnie wasn't as feisty as I'd like her to be, not as witty but she was no doormat either. Kind of like a cross between. The conflicts were pretty shallow...and I guess you could say that the entire story was not very deep, but as I've said, it has a strange kind of pulling effect that makes the reader simple dive into the story. What I did appreciate and had a good laugh were these lines: (view spoiler) [ She probably stood there at the back of the church listening to the heavy-handed organist, overpowered by the lilies, and imagined all the things she'd never done, wondering if sex with him would even be enjoyable or if it'd be something she'd have to endure like the Victorian wife who stared at the ceiling, gritted her teeth, and bearing it for God and country. I found myself being pulled into the story and felt like I was one of the characters. What I really liked about this book is that the main characters weren't royalty. Many romance novels have Kings and Queens, Princes and Princesses. This book didn't and I found that I enjoyed that more. You could relate to them more than the royals. I would definitely recommend this book. It's a great read from beginning to end and one that you will have a hard time putting down.

I think the ending was a bit too fast. After a month of separation, the hero appears at her house and wants her to attend a charity ball. Then, they meet up there and he confesses his feelings. The end. Happily Ever After. I was wondering, who trashed her apartment? And Charlotte never appeared again. What did the two of them talked about? Where did Winnie go when they separated for a month? There were many loose ends in the storyline for me.

I really liked this story about Winnie and Morgan. Who wouldn't love a hero that was handsome and successful...Morgan would be that guy. But the character that made this story was Winnie. I felt like we get to know her, especially when she was so adamant about what she wanted for her marriage. It was nice to see how strongly she held onto that while seeing some of her vulnerability. And we see how Winnie becomes more confident on the way to her fairytale ending.

What a fun read! From the moment it starts with the bride, Winnie, running away from the church and her groom, Morgan, it is Winnie's story of coming into herself. She doesn't compromise on what she wants. She discovers there is a different way for something to mean the same thing as love. And in the end, that's all that matters.

In my mind, there's nothing sweeter in the world than the heady fragrance of orange blossoms on a sultry summer night. As a little girl I spent hours on my bed, staring out the window, dreaming of far off places, fearless knights, and happy-ever-after endings. In my imagination I was never the geeky bookworm with the thick coke-bottle glasses, but a princess, a magical fairy, a Joan-of-Arc crusader. My parents fed my imagination by taking our family to Europe for a year when I was thirteen. The year away changed me (I wasn't a geek for once!) and overseas I discovered a huge and wonderful world with different cultures and customs. I loved everything about Europe, but felt especially passionate about Italy and those gorgeous Italian men (no wonder my first very Presents hero was Italian). I confess, after that incredible year in Europe, the travel bug bit, and bit hard. I spent much of my high school and college years abroad, studying in South Africa, Japan and Ireland. South Africa remains a country of my heart, the people, the land and politics complex and heart-wrenching. After my years of traveling and studying I had to settle down and earn a living. With my Bachelors degree from UCLA in American Studies, a program that combines American literature and American history, I've worked in sales and marketing, as well as a director of a non-profit foundation. Later I earned my Masters in Writing from the University of San Francisco and taught jr. high and high school English. I now live in Seattle and Hawaii with my three sons. I never mind a rainy day, either, because that's when I sit at my desk and write stories about far-away places, fascinating people, and most importantly of all, love. I like a story with a happy ending. We all do.
