A woman has been told to trust her "gut instinct" after discovering potential proof of her husband's 12-year affair with his secretary.
Affairs in the workplace are common enough. In fact, in a survey of over 2,000 Europeans and Americans conducted by Superdrug Online Doctor (an online prescription service) 33.3 percent of women and 28.6 percent of men said they had cheated or considered cheating with a work colleague.
Studies have often cited infidelity among the most commonly reported major contributors to divorce alongside a lack of commitment or consistent conflict and arguing. That's why it's important to be sure when it comes to uncovering cheating, with any false accusation likely to do lasting damage to the marriage .
In essence, that's the dilemma facing one married mother of one. Writing in a post shared to Mumsnet under the handle Lovebites, she said that from the start of their marriage of 12 years there had always been "rumors" of her husband having an affair with his secretary but she never gave it "a thought."
While she admitted they had had their ups and downs, she never suspected anything was amiss until a work colleague told her to " keep an eye on him " and warned her that his secretary was "not good at all" and everyone was "aware" of it except her. "It stuck in my mind," she said. One day, she "decided to check his phone" for suspicious messages and was "shocked" to see the conversations between them.
To her way of thinking, the content of the messages was "too personal" with the secretary "desperate" for her husband's attention. Though his responses were more "kind" than anything else, the messages left her upset so she " decided to confront him ."
While he was able to convince her there was "nothing like that" going on, she was unsettled by one message in particular, sent while her husband was on a work trip, when his secretary asked him to call her on FaceTime as she "hadn't seen him for 10 days."
More worrying still, since confronting him over the messages, her husband has "changed his phone password" and will not tell her the new one. Describing herself as both "confused" and "heartbroken," the woman turned to social media for advice, with the majority of comments appearing to confirm her worst fears.
Gnusmas said: "Go with your gut instinct would be my advice." Summermornings wrote: "When people are warning you, there must be something to it. Speak with the secretary- regardless if they are having an affair or not, their personal communications need to stop."
Riverlee commented: "Can you get hold of his phone? Maybe put yours on charge, and ask to borrow his to check the weather, traffic, find out who the actor on TV is? (i.e. Anything). His reaction will tell you volumes."
"Surely the time to have actually been worried was 12 years ago? When that many people are telling you something it tends to be true," Ohmygoddont said. "Maybe they did have an affair and maybe it's now stopped, maybe it stops and starts but to leave it 12 years before bothering to take any notice was silly."
Jedsnewstar struck a similarly pessimistic tone, writing: "Her behavior is off, his behavior is off and everyone is warning you. I think it's fair to say he is cheating." 10HailMarys warned: "If it was one-sided, the secretary would have lost her job. People don't get away with pestering their boss for 12 years. The fact that she is still his secretary and behaving like this suggests that they are having an affair."
ThirtyThreeTrees told her: "I don't think you can ignore it any longer." They said: "In my experience, colleagues never say anything to the cheater's wife unless they are fairly certain what's going on."
Newsweek has contacted Lovebites for comment.

In a 2018 interview Maggie Gyllenhaal called her role in Secretary "the first time that I was given a role where I could express something about myself," describing taking the role of Lee as an opportunity to "explore something that's on the edge of what I know about myself but with the protection of fiction." She also gave director Steven Shainberg a lot of credit for his collaborative approach, describing him as "interested in me as an artist, was interested in what I was offering, and the way that shifted the story, as opposed to whatever he had imagined before I got there."
Lee is bent over his desk and Mr Grey instructs her to pull down her pantyhose and underwear. When viewed in profile we see the edge of a bodysuit across her thigh. It's unlikely to be a tan line because she was completely covered (hiding her scars) while her girlfriends were in bikinis.

The most original romantic comedy I've seen in YEARS! Highly recommended.
I may be a jaded old cynic but from time to time a contemporary movie knocks me off my seat. Recently there's been quite a few -'May', 'Sympathy For Mr. Vengeance' and 'Auto Focus' immediately spring to mind. 'Secretary' is another recent gem. This is the most original romantic comedy (very black, mind you) I've seen in YEARS! And for something which deals with a lifestyle alien to me (dominance and submission) it's surprisingly touching, and even managed to get me to shed a tear or two. I had previously enjoyed Maggie Gyllenhaal's supporting roles in 'Donnie Darko' and John Waters' 'Cecil B. Demented' (she played Raven, the make up artist - "Pain is pleasure! Slavery is freedom! Suicide for Satan!' remember?), but her performance here is first class and is guaranteed to turn her into a major cult figure if not an actual genuine STAR. I confess that I now have a major crush on her to boot (I'm sure I'm not alone!). James Spader is also very, very good. While I admired him appearing in Cronenberg's 'Crash' a few years ago most of his other film choices have been safe ones and to be honest I'd pretty much given up on him as an actor. But it just goes to show what an actor is capable of with an innovative script and a supportive director. It's really difficult imagining any other two actors playing these roles any better. In the supporting cast Jeremy Davies also surprised me. I'd been getting a bit tired of his crazy shtick in previous roles, especially his extremely irritating performance in 'The Million Dollar Hotel', but he did a much more subtle job in this movie, and it really worked for me. This is my first experience with director Steven Shainberg but I was impressed. I now want to try and see his previous movie, the Jim Thompson adaptation 'Hit Me'. I also look forward to his next movie, because if 'Secretary' is any indication of his talent then he's sure to come up with something very special. Highly recommend.

MESA COUNTY, Colo. (KRDO) -- Following her loss in the Republican race for Colorado Secretary of State, Mesa Clerk and Recorder Tina Peters claims the results are evidence of cheating.
Peters addressed a crowd of her supporters last night in Sedalia, Colorado after learning of the loss.
"You guys gave it your all," said Peters. "We didn't lose, we just found out more fraud."
She told her supporters she was grateful for their support and that her efforts to pursue the nomination would continue.
"As I was looking at the results, it was so obvious that it should be flipped, and all I can say is I'm gonna keep fighting for you guys," said Peters. "We're gonna do this. They're cheating, and we're gonna prove it once again like we already have."
The clerk and recorder made national headlines in March when she was indicted for criminal charges including official misconduct and tampering with election equipment.
Because of the charges, a judge barred Peters from overseeing Mesa County Elections.
Peters is one of three candidates who deny the results of the 2020 presidential election, who lost their primary races. Republicans Dave Williams and Ron Hanks also lost their elections.
Kevin McCarney, Chairman of the Mesa County Republican Party, said he is ready for the GOP to move forward instead of focusing on election accusations.
“I was a huge supporter of Miss Peters early on, but she made it pretty clear that she was not about just elections, she was about herself," said McCarney. "And I think when you have a candidate that's about herself as opposed to principle, you're going to have problems with that.”
McCarney said he feels confident that the Republican candidates continuing to the general election are best for the state, and he hopes the party will form a united front in anticipation of this November.
