Sebastian isn't exactly an open book, but there's still somethings you can learn about this extraordinary butler.
Sebastian Michaelis from Black Butler is the impeccable demon butler of Ciel Phantomhive and has been for the past two years in the anime and manga. Skilled at about everything under the sun and above the sky, there is not anything this demon cannot do or accomplish if Ciel orders him. However, unbeknownst to many who did not read the manga, Sebastian wasn't always a perfect butler.
Though it might be hard to believe that Sebastian was not always a perfect and handsome butler, the manga revealed much more about his background as the main story progressed. From his love of cats to the meaning of his last name, these aspects of Sebastian gave him a lot more depth to his personality, strengths, and weaknesses.

Sebastian may be a hardhearted and emotionless demon , but that doesn't mean he can't have some likes and dislikes that are human-like. Sebastian's affection for cats runs so deep that he once kept thirteen cats hidden in his closet so Ciel would not find out.
Sebastian loves cats because he compares them to the creatures he used to keep over the years, which were not as lovable. His love is not only limited to small cats, however, as seen during the Circus Arc how he doted over Betty, a tiger.
Because he has been around for centuries, no one knows his age. Even Yana Toboso, the author of the series, wrote in the volume one extras that Sebastian's age is a secret. He takes on the appearance of a tall and handsome adult, presumably to have others lower their guards.
It seems to have worked for the most part, as the characters of the series, including Beast from the Book Of Circus anime adaptation, all seem to be bewitched by his looks. The only hint at his age is some examples and phrases he uses throughout the series.
Yana Toboso ensures the fans and readers at all times that Sebastian is a demon , but most seem to forget because of his handsome looks. In early chapters and episodes of Black Butler , Sebastian opted to jump out of the horse cart he would ride in with Ciel and do his business that way.
He would come back in less than a minute, or even a couple of seconds, with various forms of information and documents. Granted, horse carts were probably not that fast, but it doesn't change the fact.
As one would expect of a supernatural being, Sebastian is immune to anything made by humans, including guns. In the first season of the anime, the opening depicts Sebastian catching bullets between his fingers and throwing them back at his assailants.
In the first episode of Book of Circus , Sebastian and Ciel were both shot down by an array of bullets. Although later on it is revealed to be an illusion brought on by Sebastian, he tells him that human weapons will not kill him.
There's always a meaning behind a name, whether that be a real or fictional person. Sebastian was summoned and named by Ciel, but the author also added a last name to give fans a kick out of what it means. Despite Black Butler being based in London and the characters are supposed to be speaking English, no one would think twice about his last name, Michaelis.
However, "Michaelis" is actually a pun on the word "mikaeri" which means "repayment" in Japanese. This meaning reminded everyone about his contract with the young master.
Sebastian isn't just simply one hell of a butler, but also one hell of a tutor since he is multilingual . He taught Ciel French and Latin, with Ciel being fluent enough in French to speak with other natives and a broad understanding of Latin.
While Sebastian is fluent in French and Latin, he also knows various other languages, including German and East Franconian, a dialect of Southern Germany. Since both his age and how long he has been in this world are both unknown, it's no surprise that he knows a lot of languages.
Even though it is easy to think that Sebastian started his career as an impeccable butler, the truth of that was far from reality considering his demonic origins. When Ciel initially summoned Sebastian, he made the Phantomhive manor appeared after it was burned down in a sea of flames. He additionally prepared an extravagant and tasty-looking banquet of food that appeared out of nowhere.
Unfortunately for both Ciel and Sebastian, the food tasted horrible. This incident prompted Cie to order Sebastian to learn how to cook and season food properly. Sebastian had to learn from scratch to prepare, season, plate, and ensure everything he cooked tasted as delicious as possible.
Although Sebastian cannot be harmed or killed by weapons created by humans such as bullets and guns, that doesn't mean he has no weaknesses. Despite fans being led to believe that he is incapable of being harmed from the early chapters by showing him doing the impossible, Sebastian can get gravely hurt by Death Scythes.
Death Scythes are supernatural items carried by Grim Reapers such as Grell and can hurt Sebastian enough to make him bleed. During the Book of Atlantic arc, it is shown how much of a toll it took on him.
Many fans might not be aware of this, but Ciel had a pet dog before his entire family died and his mansion burned to the ground. As Sebastian loves cats, Ciel is the opposite in that he loves dogs. When Ciel first summoned him and thought about what name to give him, he settled on the name Sebastian.
Although Sebastian thought that was the name of Ciel's past butler, he was irritated when he learned that it was the name of Ciel's dog. Despite the complaints in his mind, Sebastian had to accept it without a complaint.
Many fans seem to forget that Sebastian's true form is much more gruesome, hence why he dons the appearance of an attractive man. Sebastian's demonic form hasn't been fully revealed, but it has been hinted at multiple times. He seems to wear black stilettos, has black wings, and has many eyes. It also seems to be atrocious, as when Ciel first saw it, he had the urge to run away.
