The incident began around 2:20 p.m. when a transformer fault tripped the building’s main electrical feed, according to hospital officials.

With the main grid down, emergency generators kicked in to supply essential services, but corridors and some wards dimmed as backup power stabilized. Nurses in the intensive care unit and emergency department pivoted immediately to battery-powered pumps, portable ventilators, and flashlights, while communications teams relayed patient needs to a centralized command hub.

'We didn’t miss a beat,' said ICU charge nurse Maria Delgado. 'We moved patients to areas where we had reliable power, recalibrated monitoring, and kept every patient under close observation. The goal was to preserve stability while the lights—and the alarms—flickered back to life.'

Administrators said elective procedures were halted temporarily and non-urgent admissions postponed as a precaution. No injuries were reported, though staff described a tense, noisy environment as generators ran and alarms surged.
