Screencastify And Minecraft Are Now Available


Students will be able to log in to Minecraft: Education Edition with their AISD email address. (Students can find this feature in the AISD Portal's User Profile menu.) After entering an AISD email student will be asked to enter their student ID and password in an AISD Portal popup window. This will occur regardless of which device the student is using.

Instructions for Installing on Austin ISD Student Chromebooks

Austin ISD Chromebooks capable of running the Android version Minecraft: Education Edition will require you to access the Minecraft installation page in the Google Play Store. Student Chromebooks should find the Google Play icon in the Chromebook Shelf at the bottom of the screen.

Only apps approved by the district are available for download in the Google Play store app. Click on the Minecraft Install button on Google Play.

Instructions for Installing on Non-Austin ISD Windows Computers

Click the purple Windows button to download Minecraft Education Edition Windows Desktop Edition. You will need to locate the downloaded file and open it. (It should either be in a new browser tab at the bottom of the browser or in the Windows Downloads folder.)

The Windows operating system will guide you through the installation process. Choose your language and agree to the End-User License Agreement. Continue clicking Next until you are asked to click the "Install" button. It is possible that the installation could take a while before you can see the Finish button. This will close the installation.

Directions For Installing On Macintosh Computers

Click the purple MAC button to download Minecraft: Education Edition for Macintosh. The downloaded file needs to be opened and located. wickedfrise.com should be located in the Downloads folder or a new tab at the bottom.

The Macintosh operating systems will guide you through the installation process. Select the language you prefer and agree to the End-User License Agreement. Continue clicking Next until asked to click the "Install" button. It is possible for the installation to take several minutes before you see the Finish button. This will close the installation.

Instructions for Installing on iPads

Once an instructor has installed Minecraft Education Edition on an Austin ISD student iPad, students can access Minecraft. Locate the app in the Creator Apps group on the iPad during the school day.

Download Minecraft onto your iPad from the iTunes Store. The app is free download. Click the button below to open the app on iTunes.

Screencastify Screencastify Capture Extension Installation

A live demonstration of learning is a great way to demonstrate the concept. Screen capture video is a great way to demonstrate an online activity for students or teachers to record a digital product using their recorded voice to describe the experience.

Screencastify is an Austin ISD approved Chrome extension and students and staff members have the ability to add the extension themselves from the Chrome Web Store.

Instructions for students installing Screencastify

Austin ISD students have access to the Austin Independent School District Chrome Web Store from which any of the approved applications can be downloaded. This is the only way to install an Chrome app or Chrome extension on an Austin ISD Chromebook. On the Chromebook start the Chrome launcher, search and open the Chrome Web Store app. Click the Austin Independent School District link to browse the app library that is approved. This page will help you locate Screencastify and install it.

Capture Your Video

Once the Screencastify extension is installed, all students can make a video that is that is up to 5 minutes in length. Before recording, you should practice your group presentation. The video of your presentation should not exceed 2 minutes in length. This video demonstrates what it looks like when you take the video of your life.

Optional Editing of Your Video

Be as creative as you want when building your world or recording your video. Screencastify allows students to edit their video. Your free AISD account comes with a basic video editing tool. Screencastify's support page provides more details on editing videos.
