Saved By The Bell is returning in a brand new reboot - but some of the original cast have controversially not been invited back
Hey, hey, hey, hey - what is going on here?!?
Saved By The Bell is making a spectacular return in a brand new rebooted series - 27 years after it went off air.
The doors to Bayside High are finally opening again and fans of the American school-based sitcom are going wild after the release of the first full-length trainer this week.
While the new Peacock series is introducing a whole new generation of students, beloved characters Jessie Spano and A.C. Slater are back as staff at the school.
While Zack Morris and Kelly Kapowski, who have a son together, will return in guest appearances during the first season.
However, some of the original cast members were not invited back - with one reportedly eventually getting a minor role after an emotional public plea.
Lark Voorhies, better known as Lisa Turtle, is reportedly making a guest-appearance after admitting she was "slighted and hurt" not to be invited.
While Dustin Diamond, who is the only student actor to have featured in all of the original series and spin-offs The College Years and The New Class, has voiced his anger at not being asked back.
The original Saved By The Bell stars have experienced a range of success after graduating from the sitcom.
There has been a prison sentence, delving into porn, and most of the cast look almost unrecognisable now.
Here is what the Saved By The Bell gang have been up to:
Zack was the typical cool kid that everyone wanted to be - and was always winding up the teachers with a scheme.
He got into a fight with A.C. Slater over who would date love interest Kelly Kapowski, but by the end of the series they got together and were married in TV movie Saved by the Bell: Wedding in Las Vegas.
Actor Mark_Paul Gosselaar has been back on-screen as Zack in a few guest appearances since the show ended.
During a 2009 interview with People, Mark revealed he had dated his three female co-stars, Lark Voorhies, Tiffani Thiessen and Elizabeth Berkley at different times while filming the show.
His most famous part after Saved By The Bell has been as attorney Peter Bash in comedy-drama Franklin & Bash, which he starred in from 2010 until it's finale in November 2014.
Back in 2016, Mark stripped off for a very steamy new photoshoot for baseball show Pitch - shocking fans with his super buff physique.
He also voiced his Saved By The Bell character in an episode of Family Guy and now plays the lead role in Mixed-ish, a spin-off of ABC comedy Black-ish.
Recently, Mark has been watching the show back for his 'Zack to the Future' podcast, but admitted it's been "a little bit tortuous" as he criticise his own work.
Kelly Kapowski was the crush of Zack Morris and teenagers around the world.
She broke up with Zack and started dating her boss but they got back together and eventually got married - with Zach and Kelly becoming the governor and first lady of California in the reboot series.
After the conclusion of the show, actress Tiffani Thiessen had another iconic role as Valerie Malone in Beverly Hills, 90210.
Thiessen has enjoyed other high-profile roles since her time on Saved By The Bell ended, including the part of Wilhelmina 'Billie' Chambers in Fastlane and Elizabeth Burke in White Collar.
She has also starred in a number of movies such as Hollywood Ending and Cyborg Soldier.
Tiffani will be appearing in one episode of the new Saved By The Bell reboot.
"I’m a girl that likes the originals. But that’s me, though. I’m nostalgic that way," she told Us in October 2019 before she signed on for the reboot.
"But I’m sure people are going to be excited about it. It seems almost popular to redo a show."
A.C. Slater was the jock of the group who had bulging muscles and was in the American football and wresting teams.
He frequently competed with Zach for the affections of many girls, including Kelly, but they realised their friendship is more important.
Mario Lopez actually moved out of acting to become a massive TV personality, hosting the third series of Dancing with the Stars and two series of the American version of The X Factor - one with Khloe Kardashian .
He also hosted entertainment news show Extra with Mark Wright - and once jokingly wrote "Oh! She exists :)" on Instagram when the former TOWIE star posted a photo with wife Michelle Keegan.
Mark has also provided the voice of Social Smurf in two of the Smurfs movies and is now a host on Access Hollywood.
Last August, Mark apologised for some "ignorant" comments he made about children's gender identity.
During a TV interview, Lopez told Candace Owen that it is "dangerous" and "alarming" for parents to honour the wishes of young children who identify with a gender other than the one assigned at birth.
Retracting the comments that he made in the controversial interview, Lopez said: "The comments I made were ignorant and insensitive, and I now have a deeper understanding of how hurtful they were.
"I have been and always will be an ardent supporter of the LGBTQ community, and I am going to use this opportunity to better educate myself.
"Moving forward I will be more informed and thoughtful."
The actor will be back in the Saved By The Bell reboot - with A.C. having become the school's gym teacher.
"The nostalgia was kind of neat to see, because they recreated Max and the school itself, and now we’re on these two big sound stages, and it’s shot on film, as opposed to four cameras with a live audience,” Lopez told Us about the reboot in April 2020.
"It was kind of like riding a bike, kind of, you pick up where you left off."
Jessie Spano lived next door to Zack and he would regularly climb in through her window, but had an on-off relationship with A.C..
She was the class president and had strong feminist views, always standing up for what is right.
Her last appearance was as a bridesmaid at Zack and Kelly's Las Vegas wedding, but she will be returning as a school counsellor in the rebooted series.
After leaving Saved By The Bell to pursue a film career, actress Elizabeth Berkley played the lead character of Nomi Malone in 1995 film Showgirls, which was a box office bomb at the time.
She also appeared in movies The First Wives Club, The Real Blonde and The Curse of the Jade Scorpion.
As well as a career on the big and small screen, Elizabeth competed in Dancing with the Stars in 2013 and hosted Bravo dance competition series Step It Up and Dance.
Geeky Screech was Zack's right hand man and bumbling partner in crime - and was constantly trying to pursue Lisa Turtle romantically.
Screech is the only student who appears as a series regular in all versions of Saved By The Bell.
Off-screen, actor Dustin Diamond directed and released his own sex tape in 2016 called Screeched - Saved by the Smell.
But her later confessed in an interview with the Oprah Winfrey Network's Where Are They Now? that he was "embarrassed" by the adult material and used a stunt double with his face added digitally.
In 2013 he appeared in Celebrity Big Brother on our shores - and was the fourth housemate to be evicted.
Diamond was arrested in Wisconsin in 2014 for possession of a switchblade at a bar.
He was found guilty of carrying a concealed weapon and disorderly conduct in May 2015 and sentenced to four months in prison.
After serving three months behind bars he was released on probation.
In November 2017, Dustin publicly apologised to his former castmates after he made a series of allegations in his tell-all 2009 book, Beyond the Bell.
In Dustin's book, there were claims some of the cast were sleeping together and would smoke weed in the dressing rooms, but he later claimed this was "fabricated" and he was "super railroaded" by a ghostwriter.
“Oddly enough, it’s doing interviews like this and getting the word out there. This is my best weapon for repairing the damage that was caused by things that were done by people who took advantage of me and the situation I was in at the time," he told Dr. Mehmet Oz on today’s The Dr. Oz Show .
"I will say, guys, I think you're fantastic, working with you has been just one of the icons of my life."
Dustin has voiced his frustrations at not being invited back for the Saved By The Bell reboot.
In January 2020, it was sadly announced that Dustin was told by doctors he has stage 4 cancer after he was admitted to hospital after complaining of pains across his body.
He recently became worried after finding a large lump on his neck but was hesitant to seek medical help over fears that someone would share photos of him online.
Dustin is set to start chemotherapy and his Facebook page shared a statement asking for "positivity and prayers."
It read: "At this time we can confirm that Dustin does have cancer. Dustin will disclose more information once it is available and a plan moving forward is made.
"We ask everyone to respect Dustin's privacy during this difficult time. All positivity and prayers are appreciated."
Dustin is in hospital in Florida, where he was originally admitted on Tuesday to undergo tests, and his team have asked fans to send messages that they can pass on to the actor.
Rich girl Lisa was the fashionista of the group and was always seen wearing designer gear.
Lisa spent most of her time at school fighting off Screech, who was madly in love with her, but they did go to prom together as she felt sorry for him.
The lines between fiction and reality became blurred as actress Lark Voorhies actually dated co-star Mark-Paul Gosselaar for three years during the show's run.
After the original series ended, Lark went on to play Wendy Reardon on Days of Our Lives and guest-starred in Star Trek: Deep Space Nine.
She had the role of Alfrons Ribeiro's love interest in The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, then played his character's wife on In The House.
Lark has also dabbled in the music industry, forming the group X-Girls with Rebbie Jackson's daughters Stacee and Yashi Brown, then becoming lead singer in alternative band Third Degree.
During a powerful interview with Dr Oz in February this year, the actress bravely opened up on her mental health issues and having schizoaffective disorder.
"I have to admit I did feel a bit slighted and hurt when I was not invited to be part of the ‘Saved by the Bell’ reunion as well as other cast members events, yet of course, I also realized that having this puzzling disorder may have played a major part in that factual decision.
"With that in mind, I am truly thankful for having had the chance to work on a show that has been so successful."
It's since been reported that Lark will make a guest-appearance in the reboot.
The principal of Bayside High, Mr. Belding is one of only two characters to feature in all versions of the show from the beginning to the end.
He was best known for shouting his catchphrase, "Hey, hey, hey, hey - what is going on here?" when he stumbled across students misbehaving.
While he frequently clashed with nemesis Zack, they secretly got on very well and the principal even called him the son he never had.
In real life, actor Dennis Haskins has made many TV appearances over the years, including roles in The West Wing, Mad Men and How I Met Your Mother.
He also reprised the role of Mr Belding in Disney series Victorious in 2012, as well as playing a snake oil salesman in 2014 movie A Million Ways to Die in the West.

Screech Confesses to Using a Stunt Wang In Porn, Is Maybe Not a Dick

Last week Mark-Paul Gosselaar and Breckin Meyer called Dustin Diamond (beloved nerd Screech of Saved By the Bell ) "negative" and "such a dick." This week, Diamond, the self-proclaimed "bad boy" of Bayside is biting back with some bombshells of his own. Like the fact that his porno was faked. Is there nothing sacred left in this world?
In an interview with The Daily Beast , which is described as "enthusiastic," "overly-defensive" and "a little manic," Diamond revealed that he wanted to be a nice guy again and that his whole "dick" image was a persona he created to distance himself from Screech and also get roles on Dexter and Breaking Bad . He also told The Daily Beast that Celebrity Fit Club was scripted (say it ain't so Judge Mablean) and that his book, Behind the Bell , doesn't really count as his because he hired a ghostwriter for the thing. I don't think that's how it works, but okay, whatever helps you sleep at night .
The first trailer for Lifetime's Saved by the Bell made for TV movie, The Unauthorized Saved by the
Diamond also pointed out that the new lifetime movie about his book (because it's his book when it is convenient for him) is going to be positive and enlightening and maybe a way for him to become friends with some of the cast of Saved By the Bell again, because he didn't mean any of the fake stuff that the French-Canadian guy who ghostwrote his book made up. It was all a joke! Just like his sex video, which Diamond made because, dude, there's gold in them dicks .
Was the sex tape part of the plan, too? To prove that you're not Screech anymore?
Yeah, that was all designed by me. What I didn't foresee was that it would backfire in the way that people would think, "Oh, he's a jerk. He's hard to deal with. He's an ass." I was like, wow, eight weeks of so-called reality TV makes people undo years of how they've grown up with someone. The problem is that I didn't see it from the fan perspective. I saw it from the behind-the-camera eye, because that's what I know. So reality TV, I see the TV part, whereas everyone else sees the reality part. But it was directed reality, scripted reality. It wasn't real. But after doing that I faked the porn, and that was an ordeal.
I'd say doing the porn was an ordeal, yeah.
At the time everyone was doing a sex tape. I thought that it was crazy, because when you grow up in front of the camera you know better. Colin Farrell and Johnny Knoxville and Tommy Lee and Pamela Anderson, and then Paris Hilton came out with one. My buddy and I were sitting on the couch and her video came on the news, and they were saying that it was confirmed that she had business relations with this video and was making money off of each one sold. They said it was rumored she made $14 million in revenue from that. So my friend said, "Damn, buddy! A Screech video's gotta be worth at least a million!" I was like, "You know, you might be right!"
I put the thing together. I got a stunt wang. I'm not an idiot. I'm not going to really put myself out there. So I got a stunt person to come in. And I thought, what if this thing makes $3 million? That's nothing to scoff at. But after that people looked at me dirty, like, "He does porn." No, I don't! I faked that one at a chance for millions. I'm an opportunist, really. Needless to say it did not make millions. But I had to take the shot. I don't know anyone who wouldn't.
Summer skincare Their Art Deco sugar scrub sloughs off dead skin, and solid body butters, like the grapefruit and May Chang bar with shea butter, smooth everything out.
Whatever you say, but I don't buy it. It would be one thing if he just owned it and said "I made a mistake," but this whole "haha, fooled you" thing just reeks like he watched Orgazmo one too many times and then said "You know, that's what I'm going to tell people. And it's just so crazy it might work!"
Diamond will be starring in a musical about Saved By the Bell next. He says he's not a professional singer, but, you know, pretty good. Let's hope that he doesn't get the same guy to write his book about that.

Saved by the Bell Deleted Scenes: Sexual Content

French language versions of Saved by the Bell contain scenes cut from syndication and thought to be lost forever to English-speaking audiences. Here, take a look at the very tame type of "sexual content" cut from syndication:

1. Dancing to the Max - Screech perving big-time by hiding out while the girls change in the locker room.
2. Pipe Dreams / Bayside Oil - Regular bit character Ollie Creekly suggests to a fellow nerd, who has tied himself to Jessie and Kelly, "He can play doctor." To which the girls visibly (and understandably) dry heave.
3. Operation Zack - Kelly gives Zack a "grabber" so he can reach distant objects from bed. Slater objectifies nurses, suggesting Zack use it to get grabby with the female medical professionals. Jessie responds by telling Slater he's the sick one.
4. Breaking Up Is Hard To Undo - Zack and Slater show Mr. Belding their "Belding's Boys" t-shirts, which contain the iconic nude mudflap girl, in silhouette, of course. No way that makes for kids' TV.
5. Video Yearbook - Zack uses Screech as a Valley plant while he pitches his sex dating tape to visibly horny, nearly distraught men in '80s sci-fi dystopia garb. Should practically carry a TW.
6. No Hope With Dope - After Johnny's coke party, the Gang winds down with breakfast at The Max (on a school day!) at which point Screech removes Johnny's trenchcoat in protest at the famous actor's upsetting actions. Everyone reminds him he has just committed a classic perv act, that is, exposing himself to in state of undress to unwitting recipients. He "streaks" away at brisk pace, and we all lose our breakfast.
