FerSU doctoral students have registered a new fish species for the Zarafshon basin.

As a result of ichthyological research conducted by doctoral students in the specialty "Ichthyology" Sharofiddin Khalimov, Murodjon Rakhmonov, and Obboskhon A'zamov, a new fish species for the Zeravshan basin—Triplophysa strauchii—was identified. The results of this study are based on integrative taxonomic (morphological, molecular, and PCA) methods.

At the same time, the new westernmost point of this species' distribution has been noted. Researchers have put forward the idea of a new direction for the appearance of Triplophysa strauchii in the Zeravshan basin, which is not related to the Syr Darya basin.

The research results were published in the prestigious journal Check List, indexed (Q3) in the Brazilian Scopus database (https://checklist.pensoft.net/article/188015/).
