A SCHOOLGIRL was allegedly gang-raped and killed by four migrants who dumped her on a building site and left her to die.
Desiree Mariottini, 16, from Cisterna di Latina, Italy, was found dead after being drugged and raped in the construction site in the district of San Lorenzo in October 2018.
A witness claims that the 16-year-old girl went to the abandoned site used by homeless people to buy drugs from the four men.
Narcisa Leon, an Ecuadorian woman who squatted in the abandoned site, told the court that she found the victim lying motionless on a dirty mattress.
She had seen the schoolgirl with the four defendants earlier in the day.
The four men, Yusif Salia, Mamadou Gara, Brian Minteh, and Chima Alinno, are on trial for the rape and death of the 16-year-old.
They are accused of giving the victim a cocktail of drugs before raping her in turn and leaving her to die.
According to Leon, one of the defendants said “better she is dead than us be in prison”.
Other people who were apparently squatting at the site knew that the girl was badly hurt, but did nothing after hearing what the suspected drug dealers had said.
Leon claimed that the suspects wanted the teenage girl to die to escape possible jail time.
She also said that one of the suspects, Mamadou Gara, confirmed in a conversation with her that they had given the victim a strong tranquiliser and that he had then had “sex with her”.

Video has captured the heartwarming moment a 16-year-old girl is told she can stay in her family home after facing eviction when her mother died of Covid.
Mother-of-five Kyra King died aged 48 last month after contracting coronavirus, leaving her daughter Courtney Johnson, 23, to take legal responsibility for her 16-year-old sister Milly.
Ms King had rented a four-bedroom property in Cannock, Staffordshire, for 15 years but the tenancy ended when she died.
But mother-of-one Courtney was told she could not take over the tenancy, meaning Milly was forced to sleep on the sofa at her home, which she shares with her three-year-old, her partner and his two children.
Now, following an impassioned appeal and petition which was signed by more than 25,000 people, Sanctuary Housing has reversed the decision and allowed the sisters to live in their mother's home.

Courtney told her little sister Milly that the housing association had made a u-turn, and captured her emotional reaction on camera.
Courtney said: 'We got the house! I just can't believe it. We're over the moon, Milly can't stop crying.
'[Sanctuary Housing]  said that it was the law that they couldn't give us it and that they'd just been doing their jobs but they'd looked again and the decision had come back quicker than they expected.
Support worker Courtney added: 'It means everything to me and Milly to live in my mum's house. This is our family home, where our memories are.
'The house that I'm currently renting, it's a brand new house and I love it. But I don't care about all that. It's the memories and my sister's welfare that means more to me.'
Mother-of-five Kyra fell ill with Covid over Christmas and was bedbound from New Year's Day. She was later rushed to hospital after suffering with breathing difficulties.
She was eventually placed in a coma but died on February 2 after developing pneumonia.
Courtney added: 'The day she passed away I had all my siblings with me and we were just setting up a Zoom meeting because even though my mum was in a coma, they said that she could hear us.
'Within 20 minutes we had a phone call to say 'any minute now she's going to have a heart attack and her brain's going to shut down'.
'So we had to go to the hospital and turn the machine off.'
Courtney, who is herself a mother of one, had been told she could not take over the tenancy of the long-term family home in Staffordshire
The family appealed to Sanctuary Housing to reverse the decision and garnered 26,000 signatures on an online petition
Kyra also left behind son Jordan, 27, a 10-year-old daughter and 13-year-old son, who are now living with their father, who is also Milly's father.
Courtney said: 'It was my mum's wish that Milly live with me, she wanted to stay with me and that's the agreement I have with her dad, who lives nearby and is very supportive.'
A spokesperson for Sanctuary Housing told Birmingham Live : 'We understand how deeply upsetting recent events have been for the family. Given the exceptional and highly complex circumstances, we have taken a compassionate view of this matter and used our discretion to offer Miss Johnson the opportunity to take on the tenancy.
'In reaching our decision, we have taken account of stakeholder views and given careful regard to the 16-year-old sibling who wants to remain in the home where she has lived for almost all her life. We will now work with Miss Johnson to ensure her family can move into this property as soon as possible.'

A GIRL who was gang-raped by her fellow students has been REFUSED entry to a new school because teachers believe she would “spoil the atmosphere”, police have said.
The 16-year-old was attacked by four other pupils at a top boarding school in Dehradun in northern India on August 14, according to local reports.
Her parents have now filed a police report after the girl was denied admission by two schools in the region, reports Gulf News .
Senior Superintendent of Police Nivedita Kukreti said one of the schools knocked back her application because they believe she would spoil the atmosphere on campus.
She said: “We are looking into the complaint. We will send a team to the school concerned to take its version on Monday as it closed for puja holidays.
“Meanwhile, we are also exploring the legal course of action to be taken in a case like this.”
The teen’s distraught parents are considering sending her to a school outside of the region, reports local media.
Former chairman of Uttarakhand Commission for Protection of Child Rights Yogendra Khanduri said the treatment of the girl was "unfortunate".
He told PTI: “ How can they deny admission to the child? If the girl has merit, there is no reason why they should refuse to take her in.
“They should give her admission even on humanitarian ground as she is a rape survivor who has suffered trauma.”
The attack only came to light on September 17 – over four weeks after it was carried out – after being kept secret by school authorities, claims Gulf News.
Nine people –the four attackers and five school staff including the principal – were arrested following the sexual assault.
Some 54 children across the country are raped every day. This is more than two every hour.
Campaigners say traditional views on the role of women, the rise of social media, as well as class and religious conflict could all be contributing to the horrific wave of attacks.
The death of eight-year-old Asifa Bano on January 17 in particular sparked nationwide protests, while grim details of further child killings are published on a near-daily basis.
Asifa's death scratched open a long festering wound in India - the nation's horrific but largely ignored track record of child rape.
It has now been labelled a "national emergency" and the government has brought in the death penalty for those found guilty of such crimes.
And official figures show 100,000 such cases - which may be just the tip of the iceberg - are currently making their way through India's clunky court system.
