It’s not Christmas time in our house with Zachary, our Elf on the Shelf. Zachary first came to visit us in 2009 and every year since my kids look forward to him returning at Thanksgiving time.
This post tells about what an Elf on the Shelf is and why every house with children needs one.
Zachary was busy so far this year. Apparently he loves fruit snacks just as much as my daughter does.
He spent some time reading knock knock jokes to the Lego Ninjago boys.
This was just too funny. When we woke up, Zachary replaced our Christmas stockings with underwear. (My kids laughed so hard on this one!)
My daughter wondered if Zachary would take a nap if she made a little bed next to the fireplace. Sure enough. Zachary was sleeping when we woke up.
Zachary has been pretty mischievous this year. My kids got a kick out of it when he wrapped their backpacks.

Hitler Youth rallies were an orgy of hormone-charged hijinks in addition to a heaping, helping of hate, a new exhibit reveals.
The project at the Nazi Documentation Centre in Cologne pulls back the curtain for the first time on Hitler Youth and the League of German Girls (BDM).
Both were established in 1936 and all German children aged 10 to 18 were obliged to participate. The idea was to provide wholesome activities to build character.

But the exhibit reveals that the carnal capers at mixed-gender rallies were far from wholesome.
After the notorious Nuremberg Rally in 1938, the exhibit reveals that 900 teenaged girls became pregnant. The prudish Nazi poohbahs were not pleased by the Teutonic trysts and ordered the girls to have abortions.
But it’s now believed that some of the girls were the victims of sexual assault.
The numerous pregnancies among the girls gave the group a new nickname: ‘Bund Deutsche Matratzen’ — League of German Mattresses.
However, not every German youth was buying what the fiendish Fuhrer was selling. The exhibit also includes stories of dissenters and small acts of defiance.
But those who refused to join the youth groups were ostracized and even faced the spectre of a stint in a concentration camp. Among the rebels were the Edelweiss Pirates, many of whom were executed in 1944 for mocking Hitler Youth.
At first, the groups offered an escape from the bleak landscape of post-First World War Germany.
“It was hardly possible to stay away,” Wilhelm Stratmann, head of the Bielefeld Museum, told the Daily Mail.
Juergen Mueller, head of the Nazi Documentation Centre in Cologne, said many of the youths simply had no choice.
“The majority of German youth landed, whether they wanted to or not, in the Hitler Youth, which at its peak counted up to 8.7 million members,” Mueller said. 
“Many were fascinated by the tent camps, excursion trips, campfires and also the common singing. All the things that the Nazis had taken over from the youth associations of the time.”
