I've always loved time travel books and in that regard, reno's Journey didn't disappoint. Reno's life in the 1800's was what I had expected with close ties to those he knew and the ever-present dangers that were so much a part of that era. Where Hunter ran off the track and where the story became a bit of a mess, was where she got carried away in details of each new thing that Journey introduced Reno too. When she was telling him about NASA and space travel, it was too much information for me as well as Reno. Many of the things Hunter delved into were too unbelievable for Journey, with her limited education, to know. Another example was the depth at which she explained the combustion engine, petroleum distillation, and so forth. It was much the same with her girlfriend, too much information and what purpose did it serve to her travel to see different scientists. It really didn’t add to the story. Again, Hunter was floundering in lots of facts we didn’t need nor want to know. Journey made her living from making salves and balms from natural ingredients and essential oils. Yet the author missed the chance to make more of this by weaving it in with Ela and her descendant that helped Reno to get back to his time. As a result, the story and chemistry between Journey and Reno were a bit lacking and I started skipping paragraphs dedicated to new things in Reno’s life. We didn’t get to learn too much about Reno except through their trip back to Tennessee and other car trips. There were two more areas that the author highlighted and then let drop. At the beginning where Journey was trying on the yellow 1800’s dress. Why wasn’t this brought into play on Journey’s own time travel event? The second was the glowing mountain that Journey had witnessed throughout her years of living with her aunt. Yet another was Saul’s journal. There was so much more that could have transpired from that journal. Again, a good concept that got lost in the details.
I loved the first book in this series, which is why I got this second book. Unfortunately, it’s not the same. The good parts of this book were the two main characters. They are well-developed and I did care about them and wanted to know how the end turned out for them. That’s why I hung with it to the end. However, the two biggest issues with it, without giving any spoilers are 1) Mix of genres - the first book was like a historical romantic fiction and this book was that plus paranormal(?) I guess. Individually, I like both genres. Together…eh. Perhaps if this had been the first book in the series, it would have been okay/less jarring. But it wasn’t… with such a departure from the first, it wasn’t what I expected or wanted. 2) Fact overload. Not going into detail, but I’ll say that there was so much information crammed in here, it was tiring. I got to the point where I skimmed pages because I wanted the story, not every fact ever researched on the topic. I really wanted to like this one. The characters are so strong and I was rooting for them. The other pieces got in the way of me just loving this book like I loved the first one. I want to read about the other characters we met in the first book but I just don’t want to do it like this.
I was so looking forward to this book. Now I am very disappointed. The story is unbelievable. She is very cavalier and he is just plain weird. Characters are so not what I had hoped for in this story. I wanted Reno to be more shocked then he was. And Journey is just plain unbelievable. Like everyday someone you are dreaming about for years just drop's in for a visit everyday.
I've loved all the Sable Hunter books I've read through the years, but this one is exceptional! I loved the characters she created and how they mesh together so well, defining exemplary characteristics of great men and women. I highly recommend this book and series and can't wait for the next book!
I cannot remember the last book I couldn't put down. Enjoyed each and every page. Great story with never ending delights. Made me smile and made me ready eyed. I wanted it to continue forever. Thank you so much for the joy you brought me. Truly well written with a never ending twisting turning easy to follow story on e.
Sable has done it again! Reno's Journey takes some serious time to read because the information and concepts are coming at you fast. There is a lot to take in emotionally, factually, and graphically. A warning to speed readers: speed read at your peril. Reno and Journey's needs to be savoured.
I loved it! Could not put it down. It is definitely a “love conquers all” book. It made me laugh and cry. I did not know how the book was going to end - it could have gone either way. Keep me guessing. Love the Wild West series. Looking forward to the next one. Thanks Sable Hunter. Keep on writing. Your talent is greatly appreciated.
This was a great story and I truly enjoyed it. So glad they got their happily ever after. Also was good to see some of my past actors in this book. Definitely would recommend this author and this book.
Wow oh wow Just adored this book - really did not want it to end If someone had described this book just be genre I would have been very dubious about reading it - BUT in the expert hands of Ms Hunter I loved this whole story Reno and Journey come together in the most unusual of ways and make an adorable couple. There is so much detail in this book that you can re-read it several times and discover something new each time. Love how you get chance to 'touch base' with characters from other stories from Ms Hunter - keeps them all 'alive' A gripping story-line and a thoroughly enjoyably read

Wonderful Book.
I loved this story about Reno and Journey and how they came together and grew as a couple. I laughed and cried in certain parts so worried about what would happen, but Sable writing is so easy to read and so full of facts. I can’t wait for her next book in the series, it’s so nice to read about how the the families started. Five *****
I loved everything about this story. The descriptive writing regarding the countryside, the homes, the recipes from the old West ...all of it. I would have liked to read more of Reno and Journey 's life, where they built their home, how many children they had etc... A great read.
