Say "Yes" To These 5 Citreon Key Tips
How to Use Your Citroen Key Fob Smartly
Many car owners don't realize that their keys have quite a few cool features. These tricks can come in handy when you have to summon your car, like Tesla, or deter home invasions.
Key fobs take lots of physical abuse, and they aren't indestructible. Fortunately the fix for a dead key fob is relatively simple.
Keyless Entry
Many modern cars are fitted with key fobs, which allow owners to unlock and start their car without having to insert a physical key into the ignition barrel. The keys are equipped with a transponder that sends a coded message to the car. Only when the signal is received correctly can the car begin to move.
Key fobs have a variety of built-in features. Some which owners are not even aware of, but that can be very handy when needed. If your key fob from Citroen has stopped working, whether it was due to dropping on the floor that damaged the chip in the inside or simply because it stopped working, then there are some things you could try.
You must first examine the battery of your key fob. Many of the issues described above are caused by an insufficient or dead key fob battery. It could stop the key fob from transmitting its signals to the receiver module in the vehicle. The replacement of the battery is simple and is done at home. It is also a good idea to examine for damage from water to the key fob because this could also prevent it from functioning. Re-installing the key fob into the ignition after having replaced the batteries can aid in restoring functionality. It is also an excellent idea to test all the buttons on the key fob for unlock and lock functions.
Remote Locking
If your remote does not respond when you press the unlock key on your key fob it could be because the battery is dead. The fob will have to be reprogrammed to work with your vehicle if this is the case. The process may differ for each car model, but it's generally the exact same. You must check all buttons on your key fob before you begin to check that they are not damaged.
Consider whether the key fob is likely to be damaged by force, water or circuit board scratch marks. If it is, you will have to take the key fob and conduct a visual inspection of its internal components. If the battery connector terminals have become damaged or broken, soldering carefully back into place can restore your key fob's functioning condition.
Certain models of key fobs have the "Panic" button. This button is designed to scare away potential thieves from your car, particularly if you are in an area that is isolated, like an underground parking garage. It's not 100% reliable but it can stop criminals trying to steal your vehicle or break into your home. A press of the panic button can trigger an alarming sound that will be a frightening sound for anyone who is close to it.
Engine Start
It makes it easy to turn your car's ignition on and off via a key fob that is unique to you. The system will ensure that the engine will only come on when your key fob is in close proximity. This feature is especially useful in colder weather, since you can precool or heat your vehicle at home.

If you receive an error message that says "key not detected" put the keyfob in the central armrest bin, or on the dashboard on vehicles that are newer. It is then possible to use the keyfob to press START to start the car.

Since 1998 all Citroen key transponders are used (also called chips). They have to be programmed. This is a little more complicated, particularly for lost key situations however, we can fix the majority of cars even when all keys are missing.
Battery Warning Light
If you notice a yellow/orange warning light indicating a car and swirls across the dash, it could be due to the traction control system that is reporting an issue. It is essential to seek assistance from a qualified mechanic or Citroen dealer to resolve the problem. This won't impact the driving experience but it is important to check because it could require an inspection of the system to correct this.
The key fob battery warning symbol on your dashboard could indicate that the batteries inside the key fob are at low levels. They'll have to be replaced. It is simple and can be done while on the road as most keys can be opened to allow the replacement batteries to go in. They are usually the CR2025 or CR2032 3-Volt type sold at most electronics stores. Go through your owner's manual to find the specifics or YouTube videos on how to do this.
From 1998 all Citroen vehicles were equipped with transponders within their keys that have to be programmed to the vehicle. This is a lot simpler than the past, and keys can be programmed on-site. The old key type was a chip with fixed codes, much like the type 33 philips. We can still make spare key for these models, but they'll require the key code of the vehicle to program them.
