Save 500,000 Child Porn Photos, A Model Agent From Thailand Was Arrested
A modeling agency in Thailand was arrested on charges of sexually abusing children and in possession of more than half a million photos of child pornography.
Adapting Channel News Asia, Thursday (18/2/2021) Thailand's Department of Special Investigation (DSI) announced that it had carried out a raid on February 11 at the Nene Modeling Agency in Pathum Thani province, north of Bangkok.
Authorities revealed that the agent was identified as Danudet Sangkaew, who is commonly called "Nene".
His arrest is part of DSI's Operation Casting Call, revealing more than half a million photo files related to the sexual exploitation of children in his possession.
The victims include at least 40 Thai minors and thousands of other children across the country.
The operation followed directions from the Australian Federal Police last year and involved several international agencies, including the Federal Bureau of Investigation, Homeland Security Investigation, New Zealand Police and Underground Operations, a non-profit organization that specializes in the rescue of child sex trafficking victims.
"This is the child pornography industry and we are proud to have broken it," said Khemachart Prakyhongmanee, deputy director of the DSI's Bureau of Foreign and Transnational Crime.
According to the authorities, all of Danudet's victims were males between the ages of six and 15.
The agent usually approaches them through school pretending to be looking for a young model. Such access allows him to target children, establish relationships with their parents and ultimately abuse them.

The model agency portfolio seized by the police claims to have worked with more than 8,400 child models and actors since 2013. In a statement, DSI described it as a "well-known child modeling agency in Thailand".
Operation Casting Call began with a pornographic image of a boy seized by Australian police and passed on to DSI last year.
According to Khemachart, investigators saw the tattooed hand on the photo and used it to track down the perpetrator, who was later identified as Thakorn 'Mee' Attapathomchai.
Thakorn was arrested in May last year for exposing a child sexual abuse network operated through websites from Thailand and Australia.
The arrests of Thakorn and Danudet led multinational law enforcement to expand their coordinated investigations across countries.
The recent seizure of more than 500,000 photos of child pornography was considered "the largest seizure in history", according to Supree Saowichit of Operation Underground Railroad.
Since 2013, the organization has assisted law enforcement officials in 26 countries in their anti-trafficking efforts.
"We are honored to support DSI in analyzing data to identify victims through images and technology," said Supree.
"One photo of the victim led to more identification and arrest at the Nene Modeling Agency, which has a lot of pornographic material. Many of these children were also sexually abused." he continued.
The 23-year-old is currently being held at the Bangkok Remand Prison and faces multiple charges, including sexual harassment and pornography of minors.
