Sarah Lyons Fleming is a Laura Ingalls devotee, wannabe prepper and lover of anything pre-apocalyptic, apocalyptic and post-apocalyptic-or anything in between. Add in some romance and humor, and she's in heaven. Besides an unhealthy obsession with home-canned food and Bug Out Bag equipment, she loves books, making artsy stuff and laughing her arse off. Born and raised in Brooklyn, NY, she now lives in Oregon with her family and, in her opinion, not nearly enough supplies for the zombie apocalypse. But she's working on it. --This text refers to the paperback edition.

A welcome addition, but definitely don't read first. Also, don't read this review if you haven't read Until the End of the World. . . . . . This novella took Peter's re-emergence from something convenient to a true show of perseverance. His character arc in the first book was fantastic (as was Anna's, let's be real), and this story showed just how much he'd grown. It also showed him reaching a sort of understanding with himself that I really liked. And though the end was already known because it's the same as the ending to book one, it still had me itching to get back into the story when I had to stop listening. The narration and audio quality of the audiobook were fantastic, btw. This narrator is amazing. I only wish they hadn't included a chunk of book one at the end of this. I'm not sure why they did that because this is book 1.5, but oh well. That's a small grievance that in no way detracts from the story.

Another fascinating read from Sarah, this one is 73 pages, a novella. This should be read after "Until the End of the World" as should my review. *Spoilers* Peter gets separated from the group in "Until the End of the World" and of course we want to know what happened, especially since all the characters have become so dear to us. In this adventure Peter truly shows how much he's grown from the rich guy with the chip on his shoulder who can't open up yet knows nothing about survival. This Peter is resourceful, he thinks on his feet while the zombies are chasing him! He's learned to problem solve, as he has so much to live for, now that he has friends that have become family. Getting to the safe zone is the motivation he finds to risk everything to get there. I must say Peter really grew on me, until the point where I couldn't stand the idea of him separated from Bits and Ana. Life seems to be all about growing and learning from getting your world turned upside down, and Peter passes with flying colors. I was unsure about what pods were, but in this story we really get an idea about what they are, how many zombies potentially are in them. This was so fun that when the last page on my tablet was turned I felt bereft! :)

After reading this story I wonder if other people do self sabotage also. He was his own worst enemy for so long. This story really made me love Peter and I was not a fan of him. To see him turn into the man Cassie glimpsed was wonderful. He was smart enough to take a second chance when he was given one.

For this book, we get a Peter Side story. It is okay, but I had one fundamental problem with the book, which makes me not give it as high a recommendation, as I did Until the End of the World. It is that Peter's story arc, got completed, at the end of the first book. He doesn't really change, or evolve, in this novella. What you end up with, is a book where he does, and sees things, but I don't feel he really learns anything. His character doesn't shift, or become more complex, to me for having read this. I haven't read book two yet to find out, but I cannot imagine that having read this will effect my enjoyment of it. Usually that is the job of supplemental material like this is. Still it is a fun read. The price is very right. All in all, I am glad I read it. Now onto Book two!

It had been quite some time since I read "Until the End of the World", so I was pleased to find this novella about Peter's story. Besides filling me in on his journey after being separated from the group, it also served to jog my memory about the other characters and what happened in the first book. As with the first book, this novella was well written and thoroughly enjoyable. Now I can't wait to begin "And After" to see what happens to all these characters next. And I'm thrilled that there will be a third book, too. If you enjoy zombie books where the focus is mainly on how humans survive and their interactions with one another (rather than gory zombie killing), then this is the series for you. Zombies ARE in the book and they DO kill and get killed, but it's not a gore fest. And that suits me just fine! (P.S. I'm not giving it 5 stars simply because I'm trying to reserve that rating for books that change my life in some way. :) )

Read all three of the books in this series. The first one was good-- 3.5 stars, but each book gets better-- 4 to 41/2 stars. After you read those, go to the sister series of Fleming's, the first one of which is Mordacious and easily deserving of 5 stars, in my opinion. What I like especially about these books is that there is a bit less violence than some of the more graphic zombie novels, yet still plenty of action, and the characters are well-developed. You really like them and appreciate each unique set of characteristics. There is a lot of humor and witty banter. There is also an overall sense of optimism rather than the dark, heavy outlook of other apocalyptic novels... the books aren't pollyanna-ish-- there is definite grit in them-- but they are a refreshing change from the bleakness of many of the other zombie books I've read (and I've read dozens). Part of the reason for this, I think, is that most of the action is people-against-zombies rather than people-against-people. I love books where the human race sticks together against a common foe rather than give in completely to base instincts such as greed, power, violence, etc, that rip apart society.

For a character that I started off hating,..... I love this guy! It fills in the gap of where Peter was, after he sacrificed himself, for his new 'family'. I was so glad he made it & we find out about his journey back to the group!

just as good as the others

enjoyed this very much, a short book to explain the side story of one of the characters in the series. Needs to be read alongside the series.

Down a side road

An excellent side road in an excellent series. Interesting to read Peter's adventure and get more of an idea about the man he was and the man he's becoming.

Find out what happened to Peter.

Essential reading after book one of Until The End of The World. It is good to find out what happened to Peter.

Great story. I wholly recommend you read it. Plenty of plot turns to keep you reading. Now on to book 2.

What is a book ?

At 131 pages, this is just like a couple of chapters removed from the other books, in order to get you to spend more money. To call this a book or Novella is a bit of a con. If you want to know what happened to Peter when the main group left him, spend the money. But to be honest with hindsight at just 131 pages, I would not bother.
