If one was to transcribe Sasha Banks' monologue to Bayley Monday night on Raw, it would read like a 90's R&B solo in a love song.
WWE teased a lesbian angle between Bayley and Sasha Banks on Raw.
And as great as 90's R&B was, it certainly does not fit the tone for an increasingly heated rivalry, albeit one that lost its way months ago.
And as tensions continued to rise between the frenemies, Banks came out of left field during a backstage segment with an awkward diatribe that slowly turned into something of a sweet, but still awkward, admission:
I've always cared. Look! You know I hate talking about my feelings, but you always do this, okay? I love that you're a good person. I love that you love everybody. I love that you want to be friends with everybody, I love that little girls look up to you. I love that you're always there for me when I don't even ask you to be. And for some reason, you always can tell when something's wrong. So I just don't understand why you don't get it. I love you. I always have, and I always will.
Though Banks' comments were random and ambiguous, they were fitting for a directionless feud that, on a weekly basis, has produced more questions than answers.
Who's the good guy? Who's the bad guy? Did Bayley turn heel three weeks ago? Is this leading to an eventual tag team? Will these two ever have a blowoff match on pay-per-view?
But Monday night on Raw, Banks and Bayley's backstage segment produced one of the unlikeliest of questions for both this feud and this company:
It's a valid question any reasonable viewer would ask given the non-platonic tenor of Banks' comments to Bayley, with romantic cliches such as "I don't like talking about my feelings," and "I love you. I always have and I always will."

The WWE are teasing a lesbian love angle with Sasha Banks and Bayley. I might ship them, but I sure as hell don't trust WWE creative and especially Vince McMahon to do this right. Or with an ounce of class. I'll stick with The Golden Lovers, thanks.

Some are saying this might be the lesbian angle that Stephanie McMahon wants and others are saying that Sasha is throwing Bayley off so she can stab her in the back.

The segment lit up Twitter with scores of speculation as to whether or not WWE was moving forward with its first LGBTQ angle in the New Era.
Some are speculating this unforeseen twist is merely a setup for one of these two definitively turning heel in what would (finally!) lead to a one-on-one match.
Still, it has been two years since Stephanie McMahon publicly stated WWE's intentions of integrating LGBTQ characters into storylines. But outside of real-life lesbian Sonya Deville—whose sexuality is divorced from her onscreen persona—there hasn't been the slightest hint of WWE following through with this bold mission statement.
Maybe it's for the better. WWE's vast and uncomfortable track record of typecasting, and it's limited track record of how gay characters are portrayed, should have its own collection on the WWE Network under the cringeworthy section.
From the otherwise innovative and edgy Goldust character using homosexuality to bring about homophobic taunts and jeers, to Billy and Chuck's problematic same-sex publicity stunt, there's no evidence of WWE handling any LGBTQ storyline with care.
These are different times, however. We live in a climate of heightened sensitivity, where WWE has been swayed by outrage from both sponsors and social media (in that order). The numerous social causes taken up by WWE include Finn Balor's LGBTQ-inspired merchandise , where proceeds are donated to the Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation (GLAAD) . Now would be a better time than any to trust the worldwide leader with an angle of this nature.
As the ambiguity between Sasha Banks and Bayley added yet another layer, it'll be interesting to see what direction this embattled saga takes.
For better or worse, at least this feud is finally interesting.
