Rocking the boat! Malia White didn’t hold back during the Below Deck Mediterranean reunion on Monday, October 18, when it came to Captain Sandy ‘s past comments about her sexuality.
Host Andy Cohen pressed Sandy, 56, about her September 2020 Cameo video during which she appeared to speculate about Malia, 31, being “secretly gay.” When the Most Talkative author, 53, asked about the “unusual” viral moment, which occurred before Malia went public with boyfriend Jake Baker , the Florida native chimed in with a light-hearted jab.
“Surprise, I’m not a lesbian!” Malia teased as the cast reunited virtually.
In her Cameo, which hit the internet before filming for the season began, Sandy claimed “everybody in production” had the same “opinion” as her about Malia’s preferences. On Monday, the costars revealed that they patched things up before cameras started rolling.
“Obviously, [we worked it out],” the yacht captain explained. “That was edited [and] taken out of context. As you know, people can really spin things. Malia and I are fine.”
The bosun added, “It really wasn’t [awkward]. I don’t really care if people think I’m a lesbian or if I’m straight. I’ll have fun either way.”
Shortly after the video made the rounds on social media, Sandy issued an apology via her Instagram Story, claiming that the clip was “sliced to make it into something it was not.” Earlier this month, Sandy reflected on the aftermath of her flub, telling Us Weekly exclusively that the video she made “wasn’t meant for the public” to hear.
“It was a joke,” she continued. “Malia and I talked immediately. … She knew immediately. I apologized … and she saw the real video. That’s why she will make a great captain. She gets the facts, you know?”
While she asserted that the moment was “edited” a certain way, Sandy told Us that “some things could have been handled differently” about the situation.
Malia, for her part, told Us in July that she didn’t take the comments personally. “I think with Captain Sandy, the thing that I know to be true is she never means harm. She never means disrespect or she never means for it to be hurtful,” she said at the time. “I think when that kind of hit the fan, she was kinda like, ‘Well, I was just kidding,’ and she didn’t realize the consequences it would have for me and with my family and friends. So she did apologize, and I was like, ‘It’s not a big deal.’ It just was not something I needed.”
Amid the drama, Malia debuted her romance with “hot engineer Jake,” who also appeared on season 6 of Below Deck Mediterranean . After sharing a PDA pic of the pair on Instagram in August, Malia opened up about how the relationship blossomed.
“Jake’s super introverted so I didn’t really talk to him until, like, the end of the season. … He was very behind the scenes,” she during Monday’s reunion.
When Cohen asked Sandy how she felt about the dating news, she replied, “That’s Malia’s business and Jake’s. Like, it’s none of my business. I mean, she’s an adult [and] he’s an adult.”

I have professional experience with individuals who identify as
lesbian
, gay, bisexual, transgender, nonbinary, queer, and those who are questioning.
I focus primarily on members of the LGBTQ community. This population has very specific and unique needs, regardless of which "letter" they identify with, or maybe even no label at all. I believe sexuality and gender are both based on a spectrum, that neither are binary or necessarily solid for all people. While some people may believe they were born a certain way and will never change, others may experience fluidity throughout their lives.
Faith transitions/journeys, religious trauma, sex therapy, and sexuality. I can (and do) talk about these topics all day. Any one of these issues can seem overwhelming and impossible to deal with. As a therapist who has dealt with these issues myself, I bring both professional and personal experience to help you move forward. I know every person's story and life is unique and I won't project my experiences on you. However, you won't have to explain the "Mormon lingo" or worry that I won't understand the unique issues queer individuals face in a heteronormative world.
I have been working with individuals, couples, families, and children for over 20 years. I primarily use a collaborative, strength-based approach to therapy and specialize in the use of family and couples' therapy, play therapy with children, working with diverse populations, LGBTQ+ and EMDR. I believe that the majority of people have an internal desire and wisdom that directs them toward healing and changing for the better. Similar to our bodies, the brain naturally knows how to heal given the right conditions. I believe that my role as a therapist is to help people tap into the resiliency of the human spirit.
“Alone we can do so little; together we can do so much.” - Helen Keller. Adolescence and young adulthood can be difficult. If you are struggling with depression, high anxiety, suicide ideation, or if something in your life is affecting your happiness and well-being, you don’t need to fix it alone. I will help you find your strengths and abilities through a safe and welcoming environment to promote your well being of yourself and your family.
People come to therapy when they are seeking support for problems that feel overwhelming, or when they sense they are not living the life they want. I work collaboratively with clients, walking alongside them as they seek new perspectives, helping them to examine old beliefs and approaches that are no longer working.
There isn’t a “one size fits all” approach to therapy. I have learned and gained an appreciation of this throughout my experiences that every person is unique and has their own story to tell. I view each client through this lens and treat each client as an individual. I approach therapy with each client through a strength-based perspective that focuses on the client’s strengths, experiences, and successes. My approach to therapy is shaped directly by the needs and goals of each client rather than being prescriptive. I work together with each client to reach their goals for therapy and ultimately a more fulfilling and rewarding life.
Do you find yourself struggling to communicate your feelings in an authentic way to those around you? Is setting boundaries in relationships (and sticking to them) a challenge for you? Relationships are an integral part of our lives—whether they be with colleagues at work, a partner or spouse, close friends, or our children—and maintaining these relationships takes work! Taking some time to focus on yourself and your relationships can have a tremendous impact on your mental health and overall wellbeing. The belief that every person can foster meaningful changes in their lives is central to my personal philosophy of change.
I believe that therapy is a positive and empowering journey; when traveled together anything is surmountable and healing is possible. I also believe that animals can play an important role in calming an anxious client, allowing a client to experience safe touch and giving a client unconditional love and acceptance. I am passionate about helping teens, adults and couples of all ages through traumatic events, relationship issues, reducing anxiety and creating emotional health.
And ideal client is someone who is having difficulty managing their emotions and are unable to live a fulfilling life because of the inability to deal with their feelings . These emotions of anxiety, depression, anger and sadness can be amplified by precipitating factors. This client would be seeking help to develop ways to cope or overcome mental health struggles.
Trauma & anxiety sabotage our resolve 4 healthy change: to our relationships, bodies, hearts, careers, and lifestyle. They rob us of laughter, damage our relationships, & shake our confidence. As I seek to see & hear you, Somatic Experiencing (SE), IFS & mindfulness help lessen the impact of trauma, even silence it, while ur resilience increases! We look for your inner wisdom..to shine light on the way forward. Clients growth reinforces my conviction - Meaningful Change is Possible! Bring what needs help: relationships, body/lifestyle issues, religious trauma/wounds, PTSD, DV, past abuse, grief, boundaries, parenting, divorce, ....
Hi, call me Beth! When life throws you things that you can’t handle, I am here to help. As a member of the LGBTQIA+ community I consider myself the “Queer Geek Therapist,” and have specialized with working with that population. Whether you are working on small life events, or the big life struggles, I am wanting to be there for you.
I am passionate about helping others regain their freedom through processing trauma. When I started my own addiction recovery process I had to heal my own traumas and wounds. In 2016 I started the UnashamedUnafraid podcast to be a voice of hope, speaking personally about sexual addiction recovery. Now I work with others to help them experience the freedom of healing. I also enjoy leading groups and individuals through life-changing workshops. My core belief about the healing process is that it comes from within. Everyone already has what they need to heal. Hope is possible for every heart no matter how big the trauma or hopeless.
Therapy does not have to be painful or seemingly endless. Having worked in every setting I understand your mental health journey. Clients often come to me when they have tried other avenues of treatment with little to no felt success. Most struggle with mood dysregulation and their connections with others are suffering for any number of reasons. Often they are also wanting to understand how to navigate their own emotional/mental landscape better. Teens, Young Adults and their Parents are who I work with.
I specialize in Trauma, Couples Counseling, and Self Worth. TRAUMA-My therapy style is highly intuitive and grounded in a gently approach using Internal Family Systems (IFS). We see a big gap in mental health where almost every therapist talks about letting go…but very few know how to actually help you do that. There are specific steps and practical application I have learned that can be extremely valuable to fully letting go. I don’t just want to help you by listening, but want to help you know how to specifically deal and heal from tough emotions. Couples Counseling-The quality of our relationships with other people is very
It takes a lot of courage to reach out and say "I'm struggling". I understand that. My goal is to create a healthy and supportive space for individuals and families to do just that. Once those words are spoken, we can then start working together to create a more peaceful life and environment. Often in communities, families, churches and organizations, saying that I am struggling is discouraged and possibly not supported. Living a more peaceful life is the goal. What would life look like for you? Be brave. Call, text or email me. Lets get started.
I believe it takes a lot of courage and strength to reach for help when you are in distress and you desperately want change. When we meet, I hope to hear and understand your story with compassion and empathy and create a safe en
