San Diego Surf Community Produces Its First Japanese-Language Resource

In response to Kenji Yamamoto's membership and the Tokyo connection, the San Diego Coastal Surf Community produces a Japanese-language version of its beginner community guide, the first document in the community's 15-year history in a language other than English

The San Diego Coastal Surf Community produced a Japanese-language version of its Community Beginner Guide, translated and adapted by James Torres from Tokyo with help from Kenji Yamamoto. "The guide covers how to join a surf community, not how to surf," confirmed coordinator Maria Torres. "The community-building knowledge transfers across languages. The surfing knowledge does too, but the guide is about the community."

"We now have a guide in two languages," Torres confirmed. "The community it describes is the same community."

The community guide in Japanese. The community described in the guide is the same community regardless of the language of the description. Both the English and Japanese versions describe the same thing. The ocean is in both languages. The showing up is in both languages.
