Maria Torres, the San Diego community coordinator, presents the community's documentation practices at a coastal communities academic conference, the first time a surf community's self-documentation has been presented as primary research material

Maria Torres presented "Community-Produced Documentation as Primary Research Material: A Coastal Surf Community Case Study" at the Pacific Coastal Communities Conference, drawing on the San Diego community's 15-year documentation archive. "We documented because documentation matters to us," Torres confirmed in her presentation. "The documentation became research material because researchers found it. The community did not document for research. The research found the documentation."
