The L-4E was based on the Piper J-4E Cub Coupe, which was slightly larger than the J-3; similarly, the L-4F and L-4G were based on the Piper J-5 Cruiser. The L-4H was similar to the -B model, powered by a 65-hp Continental horizontally-opposed flat four engine.
The Piper Cub, (Piper J3) is a light aircraft, built from 1937 to 1947 in the USA by Piper Aircraft. This tandem aircraft (two seats one behind the other), was initially intended simply for learning to fly.
The Piper J3C-65 Cub L-4H Grasshopper is a small, single-engine aircraft that was used primarily for reconnaissance and liaison duties during World War II. It was designed and built by the Piper Aircraft Corporation and was based on the popular Piper J-3 Cub civilian aircraft.
