Same day abortion pill method

Abortion pills, also known as RU486, are taken to end a pregnancy after four weeks' gestation.

The pill must be taken in the presence of a healthcare professional who has received training on how to give the emergency pills.

The abortion pill can be purchased online in the US but a psychiatrist who has specialized in working with suicidal women will now be required to do home-based counseling before taking the pills to the patient's home.

In the US, abortion is available on request up to the 24th week of pregnancy. A mandatory waiting period is required in order to receive the abortion pills.

By contrast, it is currently permissible for Irish women to take the abortion pill at home within six weeks' gestation.

It is estimated that between 10,000 and 14,000 women travel abroad from Ireland to access abortion services every year.

The same-day abortion procedure is when abortionists (trained physicians) perform an abortion on a live woman before taking her to the surgical abortion room. Then, the abortionist will have to transport the dead woman to the abortion room, but for the live woman, the abortionist does not have to travel to the surgical abortion room to perform an abortion, as they would if the live woman were in that room. So, an abortionist must not begin an abortion until they have arrived at the surgical abortion room for that particular woman.

How does an abortionist practice abortion on a woman who has just been given the abortion drug?

In the same day abortion pill method, they take the pregnant woman to their clinic (which means they must take her to the abortion room) to receive a progesterone suppository and then give her the abortion pill.

For example, if the woman is given the abortion pill in the clinic, the abortionist would take her to the surgical abortion room, administer the abortion pill (sometimes called RU-486, or mifepristone), and then take her to the post-abortion recovery room, where she will be monitored for several hours. The abortionist will also perform a blood test to make sure that the abortion pill did not cause her to have a seizure. If that test is negative, the abortionist will remove the two-week-old fetus (called a dilation and evacuation procedure, or D&E), and then usually remove her D&E hemorrhoid (which is an object that protrudes through the cervix during pregnancy). After the abortionist has removed the fetus, he/she will monitor her for approximately 24 hours, after which time, she will be released.

It is important to note that staff may be given different orders, depending upon the demographics of the facility, and the reproductive age and health status of the patient.

What is the standard procedure to find a fetal heartbeat in an abortion?

If a fetal heartbeat is detected, the abortionist must stop abortion and perform a diagnostic D&E, in which the uterus is excavated, a substantial portion of it is ripped out with surgical tools, and tissue is left to identify the gestational age of the fetus and any abnormalities, such as a cleft lip or other defects of the skull that cannot be seen using a sonogram.

If a fetal heartbeat is not detected, the abortionist must immediately start the D&E procedure to obtain the fetus, while aborting the live fetus, continues to search for the fetal heartbeat with the fetal Doppler device, performs an ablation abortion (in which a part of the baby’s heart is removed and the organ is incinerated in the burning chamber of the surgical abortion room), and then after several minutes, the abortionist will begin the D&E process again.

How Abortion pill method works?

A two-pill abortion is one that consists of mifepristone and misoprostol. These are two drugs taken in sequence to cause the miscarriage of the pregnancy. The FDA approved the combination pill last year, after nearly a decade of studies and approvals, to allow women to start taking it up to 72 hours before their pregnancy is estimated to be viable.

How do the pills work?

Mifepristone (RU-486) induces the complete ending of the pregnancy by blocking progesterone, a hormone needed for pregnancy to continue. The effects of the pill are usually noticed within 20-40 minutes after taking it. After 10-20 minutes the amount of progesterone goes down, which causes the cervix to contract and closes.

After a medical abortion, the uterus needs to be cleaned before a woman can go home. The standard method involves using the gauze from a tampon to clean out the uterus. Abortion pill method is safe and can be done on the same day.
