Two highly anticipated and magnificent trade shows, Salon International de la Lingerie and Interfilière, reigned over Paris for three days from June 18th to 20th, 2022, to share the beauty of creation with the world.
For the first time after the confinement of the COVID-19 pandemic, the halls of the Porte de Versailles came to life featuring bursts of color, bold graphic designs, sumptuous fabrics, and extravagant laces. Bustling with the renewed energy, the buyers and brands were united in their willingness to trade and exchange opinions.
Many independent designers debuted their collections in the Exposed pavilion dedicated to welcoming emerging talent. Among the Millennial brands were Pantys, Icone, Sebastien , Nénés Paris, Mymarini, Mila Krasna, MURMUR, Ekcentrik, Paloma Casile, and Mew Swimwear, who captured the audience with their dedication to the purposeful design, eco-conscious practices, and best traditions of the lingerie craft and French corsetry.
Noteworthy were the latest additions to the classic brands like a provocative and edgy Chantelle X, young and sexy Simone & Simone Perele, and bodacious Cosabella Men.
The consensus for Spring 2023 was the unapologetic joy-generating color. All shades of Coral, Aquamarine, Emerald, Lively Pink, and Sunny yellow bloomed in many swimwear and lingerie collections. Front and center, at the Lise Charmel exhibit, the colorful beach-going sun-bathing culture was fully expressed through the artfully arranged displays.
Tones of nature-like earthy browns, ochre, olive, and deep forest green, pleasantly anchored the brights. Classic shades of black and white graced several collections with their presence, although they were mainly attributed to the high-end lingerie and loungewear as well as the trend of the empowering seduction and bridal segments.
Swimwear has taken the turn to radical functionality and eco-responsibility with numerous collections welcoming ECONYL® as the main fabrication. Many swimsuits were well-designed and outfitted with the details seen only in couture; 3D ruffles and bows, architectural cut-outs, clever color blocking, and elegant hardware.
The seductive and self-empowering trend in lingerie was expressed through the graphic and functional strapping in bras, bodysuits, and panties. The warrior attire elements included the racer back and front bras, adjustable G-strings, halter bodysuits, and built-in suspender belts.
Lame and lurex textiles lit up the day appearing in both loungewear and swimwear ranges. Paired with the gentle florals, paisleys, and a touch of crochet, the surface sparkle drew a picture of the peaceful sun-soaking time in the garden.
Traditions of the lace craft and embroidery combined the love for nature with the elements of the new metaverse era, where familiar organic motifs flow seamlessly into the matrix of sharp angles allowing the graphic morphology. A lace collection by the Iluna Group featured an array of brilliant high-saturation colors achieved with the plant-based dyes.
Overall, the shows seduced attendees with an array of activities ranging from the educational seminars and panels, like the transformative trend talks by Jos Berry and the bra-fitting shops by Kimmay Caldwell, to glam runways, after-hour parties, and even fortune-telling and healing crystals stations.
More than the trade expos, Salon International de la Lingerie and Interfilière were the hubs where the world’s intimate apparel community of like-minded creatives and entrepreneurs came together to learn, share, and facilitate change.
Where do we go from there? The eyes are on Los Angeles, New York, and Montreal, where Curve’s multi-city expos will unfold in July, August, and September 2022.
