Rough seas and caring for Sierra have taken their toll on Kazza, and we realize just how tough this lifestyle has become. Northerly winds are brewing and we’re making good miles south down the coast of New England. We take some time to reflect how much sailing with a baby has changed our experience on the ocean. I’m basically a single handed sailor, and Kazza is a single parent when we’re at sea. After a rough day we finally pull into Cape May, NJ for some much needed rest before carrying on through Delaware Bay, the C&D Canal, and finally into the the Chesapeake Bay.

We test our limits as sailors by riding the back of a hurricane down the coast of New England! A hurricane is passing to our east and we decide to ride the north winds the low creates as it passes by to make a jump south. In anticipation of a rough sail ahead we rig our downwind poles to catch as much wind as possible. The weather is cold and the wind is blowing but we’re under control and making good miles, but realize just how tough it is to sail with a baby in these types of conditions.

In this episode we show you Boston through our eyes and we set sail for the Cape Cod Canal. Delos is rocked by a huge swell and Sierra gets her first real bout of seasickness 🙁
We walk the historic Freedom Trail of Boston and tour the Boston Naval Shipyard where we get to explore a WWII Destroyer and the historic USS Constitution, aka Old Iron Sides. It’s incredible to view naval technology spanning two centuries, literally docked right next to each other! We then continue our trip south with eyes on the Cape Code Canal. The conditions are pretty rough and Delos is getting tossed around by a huge swell from the last blow. There’s nothing worse than trying to take care of a seasick baby when you’re seasick yourself…..

Time to sail south! The weather is starting to get quite challenging up here with temperatures below freezing and strong weather systems moving though every couple of days. A few hours into our passage and the sailing is fantastic. But we’re not alone… We get a call on the VHF radio from a plane circling above Delos with an offer we can’t refuse. We divert course and do an overnight sail to Boston for some very exciting adventures!

We have one of the best sails in Maine so far! We’re on our way to a super quaint little town called Camden. After being out in some of the more remote Islands for a few months we are in desperate need of some fresh food and boat parts. The trees are changing color and we fall involve with this cute town. So much sailing history here! Brian meets some of the local wooden schooner captains and goes on a private tour of some pretty impressive boats.
Hope you enjoyed the episode! Much love from us! Kazza, Brian and little Sierra

Is our 78HP engine strong enough to tow another sailboat? This is the question we asked ourselves when our buddy boat Calico Skies stopped dead in their tracks. Unable to run their engine – with no wind, deep water and a big swell running we couldn’t leave them at the mercy of the tides and currents. So we did something we’ve never done before. Towed another sail boat with Delos!! It was quite a tricky maneuver as we had to navigate though thick fog and a minefield of lobster pots! Hope you find this episode entertaining and maybe even learned something 🙂

I know we said this was our furthest point North… But screw it, we’re gonna sail right up to the Canadian Border! After getting a tip about a deserted island with a good anchorage and cool exploring we set off in the fog. Cross Island is reported to have great hiking, a protected anchorage, an old coastguard station and if you believe in horror stories there are rumors about a haunted treasure buried on the island too. We get lost bush walking across the island and have to rush to get back before dark. It’s “Blair Witch Project” in Maine!

With our navigation pad on the fritz, a fussy teething baby, and a busted toilet we decide to make a move further North. We heard rumors of a long, white sand beach reported to be a slice of the Caribbean in Maine, just a few miles south of the Canadian boarder. So we set sail in search of this rare spot. But before we can explore Kazza gets a crash course in marine toilet repair as our aft cabin toilet is making a horrible sound when flushing 🙁 We get a surprise visit from the USCG patrol and spend the day exploring the amazing Roque Island by dinghy and land.

Why is the bad weather chasing us?!?!?! We sailed up north to escape the hurricanes and the second one this season is headed our way. After looking at the forecast one more time we decide to move anchorages to a more protected spot and take advantage of the calm before the storm with a dinghy adventure to a small lobster island before battening down down the hatches and waiting for the weather to come.

Woop Woop! I can’t believe this is video #300!! What a journey it’s been, from newbie sailors to crossing the Pacific, Indian, and Atlantic oceans. We’ve had the pleasure of exploring 6 continents and sailing with almost 60 amazing Delos crew. From party boat to family boat you’ve stuck with us as we’ve evolved over the years and it means the world to continue sharing this lifestyle that we love so much!
In this episode we sail Delos to Mount Desert Island, Maine and anchor right in the middle of Acadia National Park. Once we figure out how to anchor Maggie with the incredibly high tides we begin exploring by foot and hike the highest trail accessible right next to Delos. Brian decides to tackle some more boat work fixing our washing machine which takes an interesting turn. At the end of the day the washing machine is in pieces, but we now have unlimited hot water from our new heater system so things begin to look up.
Just want to give a huge THANKS to all of you who have watched and supported this project over the years! You’re the best and we love every single one of you and you have made this possible for us! If you are new here and have not yet subscribed please do! It helps us out a lot. HUGS ~ Kazza, Brian and little Sierra

Filming our lives is an adventure in itself, and in this episode we show the real life behind the scenes of how we document our travels! Its my B-day 🙂 Woohoo! And can’t think of a better place to be anchored right now. Brian decides to spend the afternoon filming a time-lapse so we find an amazingly beautiful spot, set up three cameras, and spend the afternoon filming and playing with Sierra on the beach. I then get 3 birthday wishes…. Brian spoils me with a waffle feast for breakfast (Wish # 1) We go on a berry picking adventure with the family where Sierra gobbles up all the berries (Wish # 2) and Brian goes on a hunt for a my special B-day dinner (Wish #3) 😀

It’s not always glamorous when living on a boat and even though we are finding ourselves in an amazing anchorage with 360 degree protection, walking trails, wild berries and no lobster pots the weather is getting COLD and we’re wearing foulies inside 😛 so Brian decides it’s time to finish the heater project!! The other side of cruising in remote places is the nearest store is a 6 mile dinghy ride away so Brian goes on a full day mission to find us some food and encounters pretty bad conditions between the two islands, battling high winds and waves breaking all over our fresh groceries. But such is the cruising life….

We set sail for Hurricane Sound in Penobscot Bay, where we discover a pristine nature preserve and dinghy through a tidal reversing waterfall! Eager to explore we depart Blubber Island and set sail for Hurricane Sound on the west coast of Vinalhaven Island. We make a stop at Hurricane Island to explore the abandoned granite quarries that supplied this beautiful stone used to construct the Brooklyn Bridge and Washington Monument. We anchor near a place called The Basin that has huge tides and a restricted inlet to a large bay inside the island where the escaping water creates a reversing waterfall caused by way too much water trying to escape. It’s a serious 12 knot current and we have way too much fun exploring it with Maggie!

Living off the sea, collecting our own food, and fixing your own boat is a ton of work! Being at a dock is a true luxury for us and we decide to take full advantage by going ashore at low tide to harvest mussels on our own for a cook-off competition. It turns out this is a huge amount of work and takes us two days to get them cleaned and prepped. After our feast we get a visit from our neighbors, which happen to be a pair of Bald Eagle! After watching them fight over a fish we see one fall into the water and we’re quick on the scene to get some awesome footage of a Bald Eagle doing the breast stroke! Our washing machine starts making a terrible noise and smoke pours out so Brian tears it into pieces troubleshooting. Looks like we’ll be hand washing clothes for a while. Then it’s time to explore the little town of Port Clyde where we buy lobster for $5.00 a piece and whip up a gigantic chilled lobster salad. Yep, we love FOOD and the bounty the ocean provides 🙂

Delos has sailed to deserted beaches, tropical jungle rivers, and even bustling cities. And now we find ourselves in the amazing State of Maine, at our very own private island! After dodging a mine field of lobster floats we finally arrive at our new home for the next few weeks- our very own private island in Maine! With deep water around us it’s the perfect introduction to this magnificent cruising ground and a great place to do our mandatory self-quarantine. We begin exploring the island and planning for Sierra’s 1st birthday, only to find that a tropical storm is hot on our heels. We batten down the hatches and prepare Delos for the blow, which arrives during The Little Nugget’s party.
PS- A very special thanks to Jordan, crew from our 1st Caribbean season, for the incredible job helping to put this episode together. We love ya’ Jordan 🙂

Join us as we fly the kite and sail through New England visiting Cape Cod and Isle of Shoals NH along the way! We set sail leaving Block Island in our wake. The conditions are absolutely perfect so we decide to hoist our spinnaker from Precision Sails. We have an amazing sail and stop in Hadley Harbor, just next to Woods Hole, where we switch out to our new outboard engine on Maggie. With wind in our favor we sail to the Cape Cod Canal and then to ProvinceTown (P-Town), Cape Cod where we explore the beach and lighthouse. We make it to Isle of Shoals in New Hampshire where we explore the islands by drone and dinghy, actually making it into Maine waters for the first time this season!

If you wonder what it’s like to live on a boat as a family, sailing from Island to Island, bicycling, hiking and collecting your own dinner this episode is for you 🙂
Continuing our trip North we decide to sail through Long Island Sound, making a quick stop at the Thimble Islands in Connecticut where we get the coolest pizza delivery ever. We depart in the morning and have a fast sail to the famous Block Island in Rhode Island. It’s a place we’ve heard so much cool things about along the trip and we’re excited to show you what it’s all about!

We get the most amazing delivery on the planet when a #delostribe member surprises us in front of the Statue of Liberty with the best NYC gift ever! Our buzz is short lived as our dinghy engine fails right in front of the Statue of Liberty as we’re trying to line up the perfect shot. Kazza comes to the rescue sailing Delos to scoop me up all while taking care of Sierra and filming. She is a serious super-woman sailor and Mom 🙂
