Melissa Joan Hart didn't have to audition for the role of Sabrina Spellman and there were no other actresses considered, as her mother Paula was a producer of the show and owned the rights to Archie Comics adaptations.
Zelda reads a notification advising Sabrina that Harvey exceeded a "Spell Quota". She clarifies that he is now immune to magic and will be aware of any future spells cast around him. This is how Harvey discovers that Sabrina is a witch. However, Harvey later falls victim to her "pinch of salt" spell (which causes victims to become distracted by talking about salt) without realizing it.
In the first three seasons of "Sabrina, the Teenage Witch",
Sabrina appears in differing clothing, and quotes a quick one-liner based
on the subject of her clothing.
There are 2 endings to the episode "Inna-Gadda-Sabrina", the first one involves Salem leaving for Philidelphia (which explains his appearance in "Boy Meets World") and the ending in other airings and syndication involve Salem getting the time ball out of his system by using the litterbox (off-screen).

This TV series isn't hilarious- it will never get laughs out of me like those that Friends and Seinfeld achieve but it's a cute show and does manage to bring some laughs and smiles. The acting is actually pretty good (at least from Sabrina, Zelda and Hilda). And Salem the cat is my favorite character. The show maintains originality and doesn't try to be something it's not... which I like about a show.

Sabrina Spellman's (Melissa Joan Hart) life is changing. She's just moved in with her aunts Hilda (Caroline Rhea) and Zelda (Beth Broderick) and is starting a new school. But that's not all. On her sixteenth birthday, Sabrina learns that she is a witch who is just starting to get her powers. So not only does she need to fit in at school, but she needs to hide her powers for fear of being labeled a freak. And there's the fact that their cat Salem talks (voiced by Nick Bakay). On her first day of school, she quickly makes friends with idealistic Jenny (Michelle Beaudoin) and develops a crush on Harvey (Nate Richert). Unfortunately, she also draws the distain of head cheerleader Libby (Jenna Leigh Green). And she has to survive biology with Mr. Poole (Paul Feig). This school year will be anything but easy as she turns Libby into a pineapple, learns that messing with her friends lives can cause terrible things to happen, makes a magician invisible, gets trapped in a mirror of her own bad mood, turns Harvey into a frog when they kiss, and faces her own worst fear when Libby accuses her of being a witch while on a field trip to Salem, Massachusetts. Who ever said being a witch was easy? I actually started watching this show with season two, but have caught season one multiple times in reruns. Maybe it's because I started later, but I've never found this to be one of my favorite seasons. Don't get me wrong, there are plenty of laughs. But it just seems a bit like the show is still finding its feet. Of course, that is pretty normal for many shows in their first year. This show definitely falls into the fantasy category, and it creates its magical world well. I do laugh quite a bit at the situations Sabrina gets into over the course of the season. The acting is good. Most of the special effects work, although a few are a little obvious, especially the puppet version of Salem in the early episodes. This set contains all 24 episodes from the season on four discs. There are no bonus features, although the full frame picture and stereo sound look and sound great. There isn't anything serious about this show, but it isn't trying to be serious. Instead, you'll get a funny show set in a creative fantasy world.

Package arrived a few days early. DVDs were in perfect shape and all played well. Very happy with this seller. Will buy from them again.

I used to watch this show when I was younger and I remember being really into it, which is why I bought the first season. It was way better than I remembered. Each episode is so hilareous due to clevar writing and a witty cast. Libby, the mean popular girl, is by far one of the funniest characters and the things Sabrina does to get back at her are hugely entertaining. The Aunts are some of the best supporting characters in sitcom history. My family and I watched the whole sitting in three days. We became semi-addicted to it, plus it flys by so fast. Each episode is paced so well that it's not to fast, but it never gets boring. It's a perfect blend of everything you could want in a family friendly sitcom. This is not just for kids or teens, it's for everyone. I can't wait until Season 2 gets released in July and I hope Paramount eventually releases the entire series. The worst thing about this release is that there are no bonus features. Not even a commentary or a cast retrospective. I still give it 5 stars because the complete series was what I bought it for, but it would have been nice to have Melissa Joan Hart come back and talk a little bit about the show. I mean, it was such a big part of her life. As other people have pointed out, some of the music isn't original due to copyright issues. I can't remember any of the original music from when I used to watch the show, but I didn't think any of the songs sounded out of place, so for the average viewer like me, it shouldn't distract from your enjoyment of the DVDs. One of the best things about this season set besides the show itself is the case. I have run out of room for big season box sets. Even though this is a 4-disc set, it comes in a standard DVD case. The case is like your standard 2-disc case, but there is a DVD on each side of the physical case and a hinged plastic flap holds the other two discs very nicely. I shook it around and none of the discs flew off their hinges. Very nice packaging. I highly reccomend this season to everyone. No matter who you are (guy, girl, old, young) you are sure to find something entertaining in "Sabrina The Teenage Witch."

Sabrina is one of my favorite shows and doesn't air on TV very much. When I saw that Season 1 was available I decided to get it. I'm watching a couple of shows right now and will continue to watch my favorite episodes of that season. The disc doesn't go right to the episodes and has some promotions. I would like to purchase Season 2 and Season 3, but it doesn't look like Season 2 is available right now.

Fantastic Series - Takes me back to my childhood

Amazing DVD series - takes me right back to my childhood when I used watch these. The series is about a normal 16 year old girl struggling with the normal pressures of high school but discovers that she is half witch and now that she is sixteen she is able to use her powers. She must now master her powers and try to keep her secret from everyone around her including her best friends whilst receiving tuition from her aunts in how to use her powers. All in all a wonderful series and great value for money.

Nice to re-live my younger days!

I used to love Sabrina when I was a teenager and used to watch it on Nickelodeon all the time...when I saw this boxset for a reasonable price I thought I would give it a watch to remind myself of my younger days! I'm close to 30 now and expected to find the whole thing a bit childish...however I really enjoyed watching it again..yes it is a bit silly and frothy but its full of innocence and with the episodes only being 20 mins long I often find myself sitting down and watching 3 or 4 in a row....a guilty pleasure! I have now ordered season 2 i enjoyed it so much!

Truly magical

There isn't endless amounts I can say about this series. It is what it is, and serves it's purpose masterfully. A magical, youthful television series, with a touch of innocence, witty humour, and beautifully acted. Sabrina, for me is a nostalgic, memorable tv show that I watched religiously as a child. I bought the dvd to relive exactly that. It is just as charming as it was all those years ago. A very worthy show, and brilliant if you want to delve back into your youth. I was chuffed with this, and will be collecting them 1 by 1. Melissa joan hart was superb as Sabrina.

Amazing Show; Amazing DVD; Amazing condition

Sabrina The Teenage Witch is one of my all-time favourite shows, and I was happy to find it at £7.99 for brand new. It came within the specified 5 day delivery, and was in immaculate condition. In fact, the case is smoother than any other of my dvd cases. I know that's a pointless comment but whatever. Anyway, I purchased this product from Amazon.co.uk Indigostarfish and I am 100% pleased with the service provided and I would definitely recommend it to any fan of Melissa Joan Hart/ Sabrina Spellman.

Great tv show that I bought from England since I live in Italy.....It's really really beautiful, a little bit fantasy and a little bit comedy....

Being a teenager is always difficult, but imagine how complicated things must be for a teenage witch trying to fit in at a mortal high school. In this first (1996) season of CBS Television's live-action Sabrina The Teenage Witch series, Sabrina's aunts Zelda and Hilda have provided their niece with a happy, relatively normal life following the divorce of her parents, but her 16th birthday brings a big surprise--it turns out that her aunts are witches who have known all along that Sabrina is half mortal and half witch. Now that she's turning 16, Sabrina suddenly finds herself in the possession of special powers which she must develop and learn to control. Even Sabrina's cat Salem turns out to be a witch imprisoned in a cat's body. After the initial shock and denial wear off, Sabrina discovers that there are some definite benefits to being able to turn back time and cast the occasional spell on her classmates. Essentially your typical teenager, Sabrina struggles with popularity, labels, and love along a journey toward personal growth and an understanding of the value of rules, the importance of self-esteem, and the universality of guilt and making mistakes. Sometimes magic eases Sabrina's way, while other times it seems only to complicate things. Whether hanging out in the world of high school and American suburbia, the red planet Mars, or the surreal Pleasure dome where a witch can have absolutely anything she wants, Sabrina is really just an average teenage witch struggling through adolescence.
