'Saturday Night Live' Cold Open Skewers Political Chaos with All-Star Cast

New York, NY — October 28, 2023 — Saturday Night Live kicked off its latest episode with a biting cold open that took aim at the current political circus in Washington, featuring an all-star lineup of cast members and a surprise guest appearance.

The sketch opened with James Austin Johnson reprising his spot-on impression of President Joe Biden, stumbling through a press conference where he repeatedly confused his staff’s names with fast-food menu items. 'I’ve got my team here—uh, Big Mac Mike, No. 2 Combo Meal Kamala, and of course, my trusted advisor, the McRib,' Johnson deadpanned as the audience erupted in laughter.

The scene then cut to Bowen Yang as a flustered White House aide, desperately trying to keep the president on script while fielding absurd hypothetical questions from reporters played by Ego Nwodim and Andrew Dismukes.

But the real showstopper came when Mikey Day appeared as a beleaguered House Speaker, struggling to control a group of unruly lawmakers—played by the rest of the cast—who devolved into a literal food fight over budget negotiations. At one point, Sarah Sherman hurled a prop pie at Kenan Thompson, who delivered his signature exasperated look to the camera.

The sketch took an unexpected turn when former cast member Tina Fey made a surprise cameo as a news anchor, delivering a mock-breaking-news update: 'This just in—Congress has officially declared itself a Lord of the Flies reboot. More at 11.'

The cold open ended with Johnson’s Biden shrugging and saying, 'Look, folks, democracy’s a mess, but have you tried the new Dunkin’ pumpkin spice latte? Because that makes sense.'

Social media immediately lit up with reactions, with viewers praising the sketch’s sharp satire and chaotic energy. 'SNL’s cold opens are hit or miss, but this one was unhinged in the best way,' tweeted one fan.
