SEMESTER CONTROL

SEMESTER CONTROL

ДНВР

Semester Control is an evaluation of the level of achievements of applicants for higher education within planned program study results in frames of an educational component.

Form of Semester Control – credit or exam is fixed in a curriculum.

The total number of exams in each examination session shall not exceed three, credits – usually, not more than six (excluding credits for practice or physical education).

Credits for an educational component are taken after the end of a study, before the examination session. Credits are checked by the teaching staff, who gave the corresponding lectures, or by those who taught the practical or other educational activities in a study group.

Credit is graded according to the results of a semester work of an applicant for higher education (performing individual semester tasks and tests, presentations at seminars, and other points), if he/she received not less than 60 points according to the Rating Evaluation System (RSO).

If an applicant for higher education received less than 60 points according to the results of a semester work, but fulfilled all conditions to pass, regarding the RSO, credit is graded according to the results of the Credit Control Task at the last seminar, or according to the results of the final interview.

The special type of credits is the defence of a Course Project or a Course Paper.

Applicants for higher education take exams in a period of examination session according to the schedule that should be approved by the Director of an Institute/Dean of a Faculty. Applicants for higher education and teaching staff should be informed about the schedule of session in advance – not later than a month before the beginning of the session.

Exams are checked by the teaching staff, who gave the corresponding lectures. The teaching staff who taught the practical or other educational activities in a study group within the corresponding educational component can also take part in the exam checking.

The applicant for higher education shall not be admitted to pass the semester control in the specific educational component, if he/she does not complete all types of activities and tasks (laboratory works, computer practices, individual semester tasks, module control tasks), that are included into the RSO of the corresponding educational component.

The non-admission of the applicant for higher education to the semester control in the specific educational component cannot be the reason of his/her non-admission to the semester control in the other educational components.

If the applicant for higher education was not admitted to the semester control, or was admitted, but was absent without the respectful reason, he/she is claimed to use the attempt to pass the exam (credit), got the negative result and has an academic debt.

According to the motivated application of a student or an academic staff member, the Director of an Institute/Dean of a Faculty can create a Testing Commission on exam or credit. The Commission includes the Head of the Department, academic staff of the corresponding department, representatives of the Dean’s office, Student Trade Union and Student Council.

Commission shall be obligatory created to hold the exam or credit for the specific educational component that is claimed to be an academic debt of the applicant for higher education.
