SD-WAN market reaches $359 million

A new report from IHS Markit released the SD-WAN market data for the fourth quarter of 2018, which grew 26% from the previous quarter to $359 million. These numbers include equipment, control, and management software.

According to IHS's latest data center network equipment market tracking, VMware led the SD-WAN market this quarter with a revenue share of 20%. VMware's global SD-WAN revenue reached $73.2 million in the fourth quarter. Followed by Cisco, accounting for 14%, revenue of 48.8 million US dollars, Aryaka accounting for 12%, revenue of 41.2 million US dollars.

Also ranked in the top three are Silver Peak, Nuage Networks, Fortinet and Huawei (in order). Each of these suppliers can see the market growing.

InfoVisa was the only vendor to lose market share in the quarter, with SD-WAN revenue down 5% from the previous quarter to $9.7 million, down 21% from the same period in 2017. Ish senior research analyst Josh Bancroft said InfoVista said its sales decline was due to market expectations that its Ipanema SD-WAN update will be released this month.
