Welcome to the Rusu Mountain page of the official IGN Wiki Guide and Walkthrough for Kena: Bridge of Spirits. Here, we’ll take you step-by-step through Rusu Mountain in Kena and point out strategies, tips, and tricks for finding all Rot, Hats, Flower Shrines, Spirit Mail , and Cursed Chests. Follow along to complete the Find Rusu quest and get started on the game's Taro's Fear quest.

Please click or tap the links below to jump to different sections:

When you first arrive to Rusu Mountain , you’ll be able to see the destination. It’s a wooden lookout high on top of the cliffs. Talk to Beni and Saiya and then it’s time to chart your path forward. There are some things currently inaccessible at this stage in the game so don’t expect to find every collectible here right now. For now, head into the water straight ahead of Beni and Saiya.

Swim forward until you reach a rock you can climb up onto and jump across the gap to find the Rot under a rock pictured below:

After that, return to Beni and Saiya and look for the area pictured below (it’s basically right behind them):

Take this path and follow it forward until you reach a corrupted arena. You know the drill: take out the enemies, use Rot to destroy the corrupted bulbs (there are two of them), and purify the area.

After this, be sure to grab the Rot underneath the rock on the right.

From here, follow the path upward and you’ll eventually run into the spirit of Taro. Follow Taro’s spirit all the way to a shrine at the end of the path. You’ll be prompted to use your mask here.

After the quick cutscene that plays here, use the Forest Tear to move a Rot cloud through the corruption on the left. At the end of this pathway is a Flower Shrine .

From here, backtrack until you see the ledge across the gap. Once on the ledge, climb up and turn around. You should see what we see below:

You need to jump to the other side. You’ll hit the sliding dirt first and that’s ok – quickly jump up from there onto the rock and climb up. You’ll find a Rot to collect up ahead.

After this, turn around and go back to the ledge we climbed up earlier after clearing the gap. Follow that pathway forward now, climbing up the cliff ahead. Follow this path around until you reach the cliff face we’re at in the screenshot below:

Climb up and take a right — there’s a fruit bush so be sure to let your Rot eat the fruit.

Then, get back on the main path and continue forward. When you reach Beni and Saiya, look over the cliff side to see what we see below. You can actually drop down those ledges.

In fact, you should drop down those ledges because one of our Rot buddies is down there waiting for you.

After this, climb back up and follow the white edge paint on the cliffs – those white edge paint lines are your way forward through this section of the game.

When you reach the area pictured below, instead of climbing up, shimmy across the ledge to the right.

Follow this path along and go up when you can. In this small and secret cavern, you'll find the only Spirit Mail in the Rusu Mountain region.

Head back to where you where you were and this time, climb up.

After a bit of some platforming, you’ll reach a spot where you can climb up into a cave. Head into here and follow its path back out to some more cliffs to climb. Follow those cliffs along until you see the ones pictured below:

They’re off the beaten path but climb up them anyway. You’ll find a large stone cube up here. Have your Rot move the cube to the cliffs on the left and now you should be able to climb up. You’ll find a Rot up here.

After that, head back down to the main path and continue forward until you hit a wooden bridge. Ignore it for now and instead, head right and go up the cliffs. You’ll find a blue pot and a barrel up here to loot for some currency. There’s also a Cursed Chest so prepare for a fight.

In order to successfully complete this Cursed Chest challenge, you must defeat all four enemies without getting hit. Because your attacks interrupt enemy attacks, you should always be attacking and if you aren’t attacking, you should be dodging. After taking all four enemies out without getting hit, open the Cursed Chest to get the Bird’s Nest Rot Hat .

After completing that Cursed Chest challenge, head back to the wooden bridge and use your Rot to pull the other side of it back up so that you can successfully cross it. Head forward and you’ll find Rusu’s House. As you can see, it is heavily corrupted.

To the left of it is the source of the corruption. There are three corrupted bulbs to destroy so take out enemies to gain Courage so that you can actually use your Rot to do so.

Upon destroying all three bulbs, you’ll see the door blocking your way forward. Use Pulse on the central circle platform to open it. But wait...it’s not working.

To the right, you’ll see a small blue stone on the ground. Have your Rot move it up the hill to the right of the door and place it in the middle of the three broken pieces of stone. With this in place, now go use Pulse on the central platform and the door will actually open this time. Head through the door and you’ll be in a cave.

It’s rather dark so use your Pulse to light the way forward. Just continue going straight until you reach an arena and then...prepare for a fight.

Kappa itself is the boss fight, but what you’re really fighting against are Kappa’s minions. The arena has three reddish-black pools of goop. Kappa teleports from pool of goop to pool of goop. Those three places are the only three places Kappa will ever be.

While standing in that goop, Kappa will throw red projectiles at you. When they hit the ground, they kind of explode and cause area-of-effect damage so be sure to not be too close to where they land. A simple dodge will get you in the clear. After these explosions happen, a minion will appear. We highly recommend taking out this minion asap so as not to let them build up and completely wreck you.
After defeating the minion, quickly run over to Kappa and attack. You should be able to get at least a couple of hits in before Kappa teleports to a new pool of good. After Kappa’s health is down by at least 50%, they’ll teleport to a place higher in the arena and launch a flurry of explosives at you below .

There’s no real rhyme or reason to this — we suggest running nonstop, dodging to get away from them if one still gets too close.

After this move, Kappa will quickly launch three explosive projectiles that are even bigger. What’s worse is that the minions that appear out of each explosion are harder than the previous ones. Quickly take down all three and return to attacking Kappa in between his projectile lobs. Rinse and repeat this process (and use the healing flower in here if needed) until Kappa goes down.

After defeating Kappa, throw your Rot at the large corrupted flower and use Pulse to destroy it. This opens up the way forward. Follow this new path until you reach an elevator. Use a Pulse on it to begin moving up.

Up here, follow Beni and Saiya forward and keep an eye out for a fallen Fox statue on the left. Use your Rot to lift it up and get some Karma. Continue forward from here to reach Rusu. A cutscene will begin.

You’ll learn here that Taro, Beni, and Saiya’s parents died due to a famine that destroyed many in the village. Taro, however, soon died too, leaving Beni and Saiya alone. Kena believes defeating the corruption will save things and Rusu teaches her how to use a bow to help her on this journey.

With the bow in hand now, Kena can attack enemies from a distance. The bow will also come in handy with finding new Rot and other collectibles , as well as solving puzzles. For now, practice your bow skills on Rusu’s targets.

When you’re ready to advance, turn around and use your Rot to lift the Fox statue to gain some Karma. Head down and when you reach where we are in the screenshot below, take a right. You’ll find a Flower Shrine , but it’s corrupted. Head further up this path and you’ll see a blue crystal on a tree.

Shoot it with your bow and a Forest Tear will fall down. Now you can wrestle up a Rot cloud and use it to destroy the corruption overtaking the Flower Shrine .

Head back down to the central area and go to the pathway leading left. You should see a purple bag hanging from a tree. Shoot it and a Rot will fall down.

Around this path, you’ll see three purple fruits hanging. Shoot them down so that your Rot can eat them. After this, shoot the coconut-looking ball with a face on it by Resu and the wooden platforms and three targets will shoot into the air. Shoot them with your bow to get some currency.

After that, pull the wooden lever nearby with your Rot and four targets will drop from the tree above. Shoot them as fast as you can and if you shoot all four before they rise back up into the tree, you’ll get some currency.

Follow the path behind that lever to another wooden platform and use your Rot to pull the lever across the gap. Four targets will shoot into the air — shoot them before they fall down to unlock the Whirly Bird Hat in the Hat Shop.

And speaking of Hat Shops, there’s a Hat Cart on this very same platform.

However, you should pul the lever here with Rot two more times to ensure you complete three unique rounds of target practice to guarantee you complete Rusu’s challenge here. After this, return to the Flower Shrine and talk to Rusu. He’ll task you with running along a path and shooting 6 targets that fall from trees within 30 seconds. Complete this to advance.

You should have completed four target challenges with Rusu now and if you did each correctly, each of Rusu’s resting points will have a red banner displayed. Upon completing all four successfully, you’ll unlock Rusu’s Mask in the Hat Cart shop for 500 currency diamonds.

Once you’ve done this, you can leave this area of the game. Let’s head down the path away from Rusu’s lookout. Head down and you’ll encounter an arena of sorts. Prepare to fight some enemies here, but more importantly, keep an eye out for some corrupted monkeys. You need to shoot them with your new bow to defeat them.

When you’ve gained enough Courage for your Rot, sic them onto the corrupted flower across the gap and shoot the now-blue bulb to destroy the corrupted flower. Now shoot the big target on the right of the drawbridge and the bridge will fall down, revealing the way forward.

Before crossing, though, look to the left to find a fox statue that you can lift up with your Rot. Cross the bridge and look left — you’ll see Rusu. Ignore him for now and go right. You should see what we see below:

Jump across and look for a blue flower. Shoot it and Kena will be transported across the gap. Here, you’ll find the game’s first Meditation Spot . Rest here to permanently increase Kena’s health.

After this, look back from where you came and shoot the blue flower on the tree to return to Rusu. Slide down the path behind him and if possible, jump up when you see a blue flower on the cliffs and shoot it.

This will launch you up so that you can grab the chest here. If you miss it, don’t sweat — there’s just currency inside. At the bottom of the dirt slide, prepare for a fight at the bottom of the hill, behind Rusu’s house. Shoot all five monkeys here and then a boss fight will begin.

The Wood Knight is easy to hit but easy to die from as well. That’s because it hits incredibly hard. It will likely begin the fight against you by actually throwing its giant wood club horizontally at you.

This will do a ton of damage and it will knock you back a lot. Dodge out of the way to avoid getting hit.

After this, you’ll probably be tempted to run right at it and attack and that’s fine. Be wary, though — when you get close, it’ll unleash a two-hit combo. If you can parry these, do so and then punish them by getting in a lot of good hits. The Rot Hammer attack does serious damage to the Wood Knight so use this if you can.
Another move to watch out for is a lunge stab. The Wood Knight will actually lunge at you and stab with its club. As a result, the move’s reach is extreme so you’ll need to actually sprint away and dodge to avoid this attack.

There are two healing flowers you can use during this boss fight.

After defeating the Wood Knight , sic your Rot to the corrupted flower and shoot it with a bow. This will purify the area of corruption and give Rusu his home back.

You’ll also receive Three Rot for completing this “quest.” After this, a cutscene will begin and Rusu will inform you of your next steps...but before doing that, let’s grab some collectibles .

First and foremost, if you see any blue lanterns hanging around this area, shoot them for some currency. Ok, now head into Rusu’s house and let your Rot eat the fruit on the table here.

Now, use your Rot to open a drawer inside Rusu’s home. This will reveal a Rot .

The last thing to grab in here is some currency in a blue pot. After that, head back out and open the blue pot using Rot on the side of the house. On the opposite side of the house, you’ll find a crate to open. Both will give you currency.

In front of the house, you’ll find a small garden. Shoot the target here to reveal a blue drop. Use your Rot to move this blue drop onto the flower in the garden and a Forest Tear will grow. Use a Rot Cloud to make everything in the garden grow and then move the cloud over to the second garden to the left of the first. This will give you a nice amount of Karma.

This will cause a squash to grow in the first garden and purple butterflies will fly above it. Use Pulse near this squash to get a Rot. You’ll receive the Squash Rot Hat for doing this too.

Drop down from the ledge here and have some Rot pick up the owl statue. Have them move it to the open spot in the Owl statue lineup. This will give you some Karma. After this, head back to Rusu and look beyond him. In front of him is a small tunnel. Head through it:

Here, shoot the blue jewel in the Owl shrine’s chest. This will cause a Forest Tear to grow and now you can use this to destroy the corruption to the left of the shrine. Bring the Rot Cloud further into this tunnel that’s now open to destroy the corruption at the end of it.

You’ll find a Flower Shrine on the other side of this tunnel. Now head back to the Owl shrine and look to the right of the owl. You’ll see some gears. Have your Rot take control of the middle gear and then shoot the lowest gear.

This moves a platform up. Make your way to it and use it to clear the gap up here. Follow the path up and around to the right to find a crate with some currency in it. Then, dip back around and you’ll find a horizontal elevator (you have to shoot the blue diamond to make it move).

Take this across, shoot the blue flower to teleport and then, while still in the air, turn to shoot the second blue flower. This brings you to a platform with a blue pot, a crate, and a chest. Open the chest to get the Feather Hat for your Rot.

After this, head back to the Owl shrine and look for some orange flowers. One of them should be moving — that’s a Rot for you to collect. Use Pulse to stop it and then collect it with Triangle. You’ll receive a Flower Rot Hat for finding this Rot.

After this, head back toward the broken wooden bridge from earlier in front of Rusu’s house. You’ll find some rocks and broken wood you can interact with. Do so and Taro’s spirit will pop out — follow it and then, when you reach its final destination, press left on the d-pad to wear the Taro Spirit Mask and view a Taro memory.

When you’re ready, head to the left of Rusu’s house to find a horizontal elevator. Take it across and on the other side, take a right to find a crate with some currency in it. After that, follow the path until you reach a dead end. Shoot an arrow at the flower across the way to teleport over there.

Follow this path down and you’ll be at the base of Rusu’s Mountain , the exact same place we were at the start of this walkthrough page. Down here, look for the flower on the island. Shoot it to teleport there and then use a Pulse to find a Rot here.

Now, from here, your objective is to meet Rusu in the Forgotten Forest . You can head to IGN’s Forgotten Forest page to continue this walkthrough or head to IGN’s Taro’s Tree page to collect some collectibles we couldn't collect earlier.
