Russian scientists have completed the Great African Expedition, which was launched in 2024, the Government of the Russian Federation reported.

During the research, scientists assessed the state of biological resource stocks in the waters of Morocco, Mauritania, Guinea-Bissau, Guinea, Sierra Leone and Mozambique.

“The data obtained are of practical importance for ensuring sustainable, efficient and environmentally safe fishing. Such large-scale research has been conducted for the first time in the modern history of our country,” said Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation Dmitry Patrushev.

The Russian government noted that the expedition helped restore scientific ties with African research institutes and scientific centres, which may serve as a basis for developing co-operation in the fisheries sector.
