READOVKA's FAKE Of The News On WORLD TRIATHLON Website

Just hunting for interesting news I came along a story that the World Triathlon Executiv Board had decided to follow the IOC recommendation to allow the participation of Russian athletes. And I read that on the Russian Telegram channel Readovka. So I checked on the Homepage of said organisation and something caught my attention. The text in the apparent screenshot of the website seemed different.

Really, it was significantly changed. The original reads as follows:

In principle, World Triathlon supports the development of a pathway for independent neutral individual Athletes and Officials with Russian and Belarusian passports to participate in our sports. World Triathlon will in consultation with the IOC and ASOIF work towards developing the necessary independent review processes to allow and plan for the return of these individuals to our competitions and events.

But Readovka took this text and changed the middle passage to a firmer statement. The fake reads:

The decision was taken in order to develop a pathway for Independent Neutral Athletes with Russian and Belarusian passports as well as officials from both countries to participate in the sport. World Triathlon is working with the IOC and ASOIF to develop the independent review process necessary for any athlete or official from the two countries to attend an event.

So, instead of "supports the development of a pathway in principle", Readovka prefers to show "the decision was taken to develop a pathway."

The Qualifier "individual" for the athletes is suppressed, intend twisted into a fact, description changed into a purpose.

And I'm pretty sure that the shift in the meaning is even clearer in Russian.

And then they use their manipulated product to broadcast their comment, which reads as follows:

The International Triathlon Union allowed Russian athletes to participate in sports competitions

 The International Triathlon Union allowed athletes from Russia to participate in competitions, the organization said. The World Triathlon Executive Committee followed the advice of the IOC and removed the suspension from both Russian and Belarusian triathletes.

They noted that the decision is intended to "open the door for independent neutral athletes with passports of the Russian Federation and the Republic of Belarus", that is, it is still forbidden to perform under national flags. Earlier, a similar decision was made by the International Wrestling Federation, which allowed the representatives of the Russian Federation to compete in a neutral status.

Another day, another fake.
