Russia expands GLONASS network by installing a station in Myanmar

Russia is expanding its GLONASS global navigation satellite system, and Moscow will open a new station in Myanmar, Southeast Asia, according to the Roscosmos press service.
Roscosmos Head Dmitry Bakanov made a working visit to Myanmar, where he held a working meeting with Myanmar President Min Aung Hlaing and Dr. Soe Myint Maund, Director General of the Myanmar Space Agency. During the talks, Bakanov agreed to deploy a GLONASS data collection station in Myanmar. The location has already been determined.
Another significant step has been taken in the area of cooperation between Russia and Myanmar: following negotiations with the Director General of the Myanmar Space Agency, Dr. Soe Myint Maund, a Russian-Myanmar Memorandum on the development of cooperation in the field of human spaceflight was signed.
In addition, Russia will train the first Myanmar cosmonaut; there is no information regarding the time of his launch into orbit; everything is still preliminary.
Roscosmos reported that discussions are also underway regarding the deployment of a space object tracking station (an automated warning system for dangerous situations in near-Earth space).
