️Rusnano's MRAM Chip Project Goes Bankrupt

Crocus Nanoelectronics has declared bankruptcy. Its main creditor, Rusnano, invested €100,000,000 in the project. Despite massive financial investments (for example, in 2016, the Ministry of Industry and Trade issued a 1.24 billion ruble subsidy for the development of 300mm semiconductor wafers), the company never turned a profit. From 2017 to 2024, the company generated annual losses amounting to hundreds of millions of rubles. Even a full buyout of its French partners (CrocusTechnology) in 2020 did not save the situation—by that time, the technological equipment had already been sold and leased back to cover cash shortfalls.

In the fall of 2025, the Prosecutor General's Office completed its criminal investigation into former Rusnano CEO Andrey Kushnarev and former Rusnano top manager Yuri Udaltsov. According to investigators, the management embezzled more than 7.5 billion rubles allocated for the development of the MRAM project.

MRAM chips are magnetoresistive random-access memory chips. Unlike other types of memory devices, information in MRAM is stored not by electrical charges, but by the magnetic properties of the materials. They are used in a variety of devices, including corporate storage, industrial robotics, satellites, space travel, and industrial controllers.
