"Rurouni" redirects here. For the related word of wandering samurai, see Rōnin .
Cover of the twenty-eighth tankōbon volume, featuring Himura Kenshin (front) and Kamiya Kaoru (back)

^ "Rurouni" is a word created by the author by blending the words 流浪 ( rurō "wandering") and 浪人 ( rōnin "masterless samurai", literally "wanderer"), and it is spelled in kanji within the manga as 流 ( る ) 浪 ( ろう ) 人 ( に ) . A rough translation of the whole title would be "Kenshin the Wandering Masterless Samurai: Meiji Swordsman, a collection of Romantic Folk Tales."

^ Weekly Shōnen Jump #43 of 1999 (cover date October 4) was released on September 21; the issue where Naruto made its debut. [35]
