Kolejny obciąg można opóźnić, jeśli stosuje się dojrzewanie nad osadem drożdży (fr. élevage sur lies fines lub po prostu sur lie).
Współcześnie taki obciąg wina zwykle przeprowadza się kilkakrotnie podczas dojrzewania wina, a na dnie gromadzi się wtedy coraz mniej osadu.
Zjawisko to, obserwowane na wydrukowanej odbitce jako rozmazany obraz, może być skutkiem założenia na cylinder niewłaściwego obciągu (lub podkładu pod nim niewłaściwej grubości) lub jego nadmiernego zużycia.
Klarowanie zmniejsza populację bakterii kwasu mlekowego, podobnie jak obciągi, filtrowanie, stablizowanie wina i inne tego typu zabiegi.
W poligrafii, w technikach offsetowych stosowany jest cylinder pośredni z obciągiem kompensujący nierówności podłoża, a w typooffsecie jest wręcz niezbędny dla uzyskania w druku barwnym odpowiedniej dokładności elementów obrazu.
Papier kalibrowany – papier o stałej, precyzyjnej grubości na całej swojej powierzchni, stosowany np. jako podkład pod gumę obciągową, tworzy wraz z nią obciąg w technice drukowania offsetowego.
Farba z czterech płyt drukowych przenoszona jest na jeden obciąg gumowy, drukujący awers, a z czterech innych płyt drukowych transferowana jest na drugi obciąg, drukujący rewers.
Niektóre współczesne maszyny drukarskie wyposażone są w pierścienie przeciwmurzeniowe, zapobiegające dopuszczeniu do nadmiernego zużycia się obciągów gumowych.
Konstrukcja maszyn zwojowych rotacyjnych typooffsetowych przypomina konstrukcje maszyny typograficznej z tą różnicą, iż po cylindrze formowym znajduje się cylinder pośredni z obciągiem.
Czasami jednak wina nie ściąga się przez dłuższy czas (3–6 miesięcy) znad osadu z fermentacji lub między kolejnymi obciągami.
