I didn’t know what group to post this in, so sorry if it’s not appropriate for this one but I need to ask! Since I was old enough to remember my mum has always asked me (f/28) to rub her back or her feet or even on occasion a half body massage. That was totally normal for me and I over the years has turned into a certain currency where mum will buy me something if I give her a foot rub. I absolutely hate doing it. Almost everything has limits and is situational. There are emotionally abusive ways to have kids do homework, chores, and eat food. There are also appropriate ways to do those.
So much emotional neglect stuff is “I can’t write a hard and fast rule about it, but I know it when I see it.” This kinda sounds like you know it. Making excuses for parents and justifying their behavior is also a very CEN thing.

Hmmm, tbh I think it got weird when it started involving bribes. I used to walk on my dad's back as a kid or give him foot rubs, but never got "paid" or pressured into it. It was just a way to feel close. The fact that you've gotten pressured and bribed into it makes it not ok.
I don't know if it is something that is ongoing now, but if it is, you should definitely put a hard stop to that. "No mom. I don't want X if it means you expect a massage, I dont do that for you anymore. Go see a massage therapist, but don't ask me."

You might find exploring these terms online helpful to unpack more of your feelings about this and the impact it has had on you.
If my post had just asked asked “did anyone else have to rub their mothers feet when they were younger?”, without the adult emotional, would it still set off red flags as much?

Sorry if this post isn't the most detailed I have always been bad with story telling. But I'll try my best. It'll definitely be a very long post. I'll try to go into as much detail as possible. I just wish I had some photos.
