Prince Edward's fiancé, Sophie Rhys-Jones, found herself in a bit of hot water just before their wedding in 1999 when Bitish tabloid, The Sun, published topless photos of her. "This morning's story in The Sun is a gross invasion of privacy and cannot be regarded as in the public interest," Buckingham Palace responded via a statement. The editor of The Sun apologized to the palace.
The French magazine, Closer, published a spread of photos Sept. 14, 2012 of what appears to be Kate Middleton on vacation, sunbathing topless. The royal family announced it was suing the mag for publishing the photos.
Shortly after Kate Middleton's sister, Pippa, drew attention at the royal wedding, topless photos emerged of the famous sibling. Pippa, who some have nicknamed "Royal Hotness," was photographed in just her white bikini bottoms while on vacation with Kate and Prince William in Ibiza back in 2006.
Kate Middleton's brother, James, had his own nude scandal around the same time nude photos of his sister Pippa surfaced. Buzzfeed.com posted photos of James showing off his naked bottom, as well as a few shots of the royal sibling dressed in a French maid costume.
Photos
surfaced Aug. 22, 2012 of Prince Harry naked in a Las Vegas hotel room. Harry is seen standing and covering his genitals with his hand in one photo and bear-hugging a naked woman in another. The Prince was reportedly playing "strip biliards." Buckingham Palace confirmed the photos were real and said they were a breach of privacy.

Princess Diana was photographed tanning topless in 1994 on the Costa del Sol in Spain but the British tabloids refused to print the pics. The Princess, who was separated from Prince Charles at the time, said that being photographed topless felt "like a rape." The paparazzi ultimately led to Diana's death in Paris in 1997.
Prince Charles faced his own naked embarrassment in 1994 when a German tabloid published a nude photo of the Prince vacationing in southern France. "We think it is completely unjustifiable for anybody to suffer this sort of intrusion," Buckingham Palace responded via a statement. British tabloids refused to run the photos which were grainy and taken with a long lens.
Sarah Ferguson, the former Duchess of York, had her share of scandals during her six years of marriage to Prince Andrew. The Duchess, also known as "Fergie," made international headlines in 1992 when she was photographed topless with an American businessman sucking on her toes.

Princess Stephanie of Monaco was nicknamed Monaco's "wild child," in the 1980s. The Princess was frequently snapped sunbathing topless in her late teens and early 20s. But that was the lesser of her scandals. The Princess ran away with the circus in 2001 and also married, and then divorced, her bodyguard with whom she had two children.

French magazine Closer just published some photos of Kate Middleton sunbathing topless while "staying at the French chateau of the Queen's nephew, Lord Linley — making it now two royal nudie picture scandals in three weeks. Click though for some NSFW scans.
The photographer who shot them apparently tried to sell them in England, but no one in the British media — which tend to avoid embarrassing the royals for fear of having their access cut off — would bite. Closer did, and published the pics today:
At the risk of being thrown in the Tower of London, British tabloid The Sun will publish the nude…
On the magazine's website, it says the pictures are of the couple "like you have never seen them before. Gone are the fixed smiles and the demure dresses. On holiday Kate forgets everything."
(You have to say it in a French accent to really get the full effect.)
According to the BBC, the couple, who learned about the photos while in Malaysia yesterday, is considering the possibility of bringing a lawsuit against the photographers or the magazine, and the British press is up in arms — The Telegraph calls the paparazzi "grinning perverts." All in all, though, isn't this the classy way to have your privacy invaded? Instead of, you know, being surreptitiously photographed by a fellow nude billiards player ?
Prince Harry got drunk in Las Vegas and decided to play strip billiards, which is like strip poker…
Here are some scans from the magazine. Egotastic has the rest :
Update: Here's the statement from the Duke and Duchess, via a spokesperson:
"Their Royal Highnesses have been hugely saddened to learn that a French publication and a photographer have invaded their privacy in such a grotesque and totally unjustifiable manner. The incident is reminiscent of the worst excesses of the press and paparazzi during the life of Diana, Princess of Wales, and all the more upsetting to The Duke and Duchess for being so. Their Royal Highnesses had every expectation of privacy in the remote house. It is unthinkable that anyone should take such photographs, let alone publish them."
