Roy Orbison’s 1964 mega hit, reaching no. 1 both in the US and the UK. He was the only American artist to reach no. 1 in the UK in a 69 weeks period at that time! Ranked #222 of the top 500 songs ever. Won multiple awards including a posthumous Grammy in 1991.
Apparently written about Orbison’s wife, Claudette , while she was preparing to go out. Still, at a certain point the song became downright impossible to separate from Julia Roberts.

It was released as a single in August 1964 on Monument Records and spent three weeks at number one on the Billboard Hot 100 from September 26, 1964, the second single by Orbison to top the US charts. It was also Orbison's third single to top the UK Singles Chart (for a total of three weeks). The record ultimately sold seven million copies and marked the high point in Orbison's career. Within months of its release, in October 1964, the single was certified gold by the RIAA. At the year's end, Billboard ranked it the number four song of 1964. Roy Kelton Orbison (April 23, 1936 – December 6, 1988), also known by the nickname 'The Big O', was an American singer-songwriter, best known for his distinctive, powerful voice, complex compositions, and dark emotional ballads. Orbison grew up in Texas and began singing in a rockabilly/country and western band in high school until he was signed by Sun Records in Memphis. His greatest success came with Monument Records between 1960 and 1964, when 22 of his songs placed on the Billboard Top Forty, including "Only the Lonely", "Crying", and "Oh, Pretty Woman".
