How is the sea on a cruise to Norway then over to Iceland and back to England in July?
Typical for the North Atlantic in summer. If the vessel is very large, you don't feel any movement, basically.
You are not passing through a canal or a fjord. This is the open waters of the North Atlantic Ocean we're speaking of here. That's 106,460,000 square kilometers (41,100,000 square miles) according to the internet.
It's simply not possible to say anything about where rough seas are or not. The captain and the deck officers have the responsibility not to encounter very rough seas on cruise lines. That's why we use satellites and weather reports :-) The bigger the vessel, the more stable it is.
My experience of Norway has been good, if weather is bad the ship may divert to avoid and a stop may be missed. They do everything to ensure the safety of passengers. I'm hoping weather is good as were doing Norway and Iceland next week 🙂
Sadly I don't think it's particularly easy to predict how rough the sea will be in any given area ... but the cruise ship captains do their best to minimise the effects of strong winds and swell as has been said. It might be worth packing some good anti-seasickness medications or wrist bands (if they work for you) so at least you have a personal first line of defence. Hope for the best, and enjoy your trip.
