Leanne Thompson has been camping out on the streets of Melbourne, Australia, to watch over her son Daniel, 25
A WORRIED mum has decided to join her homeless son on the streets because she is so worried about him.
Leanne Thompson was so concerned about her son Daniel, 25, that she began to fly frequently from Brisbane to Melbourne, Australia, to make sure he was okay after he started sleeping rough, news.com.au reports.

She even started bringing a sleeping bag and blanket so she could spend the night with him to ensure nothing happens to him.
She said: “I can’t do it every night but sometimes when I’ve been extremely concerned for his well-being, when he’s very unwell, that’s what I’ve had to do.”
His family says Dan had a privileged upbringing – he was raised with a private education and grew up to travel overseas and gain full-time employment.
But it was when Dan began dabbling in cannabis with his “peers” that his life seemed to go downhill.
He has now been living on the streets for four months, has psychotic episodes and has turned to a life of crime.
Leanne has been visiting every week to “keep an eye on him and make sure he’s OK”.
But Daniel refuses to accept any help from his family and the mum said she is worried he will “die on the streets”.
Leanne has become such a frequent visitor to the streets she knows many of the other homeless people by name.
She says they are “supportive” of her mission to save her son and ask him: “Why don’t you let them help you?”
Leanne said: “But when people have an addiction they lose that capacity to make the correct decisions for their own well-being.”
The mum hopes the State Government will introduce enforced rehabilitation – a decision she says will save her son’s life.
She said: “This is life-changing — I can’t focus on anything else. Everything is on hold as I can’t do anything knowing my son is on the street.
“There have been times that I thought Daniel will die on the streets.”
In an interview with Tony Jones on 3AW , Leanne said her son is “not receptive” to the family and he’s “quite anti-us”.
She said: “I don’t think he feels he has a problem and I think he just he sees us as authority figures, but we’re just loving parents who want to make sure our son’s OK.”
Jenny Mikakos, Minister for Families and Children, told Nine News the chief psychiatrist has been examining Dan’s case since last week.
Salvation Army’s Maj Brendan Nottle said: “We’ve spoken with Dan and we’ve had workers say to Dan, ‘We can drive you to the accommodation now, we can go and pick up your gear and take that as well’.
“But Dan has actually said, ‘Let me think about that’, and hasn’t gotten back to us.”
