Rough Man
Most of all ONE ROUGH MAN is a damn exciting book. Leaving aside the deeper glimpses the book provides into the type of man needed by organizations like the mythical Task Force, Brad Taylor has used his experience to provide his thriller with a gritty realism. The violence is to be expected, but the tale also contains moments of humor. The intensely- driven storyline grabs a reader by the throat and drags them into a world made real by an author who knows it intimately. The second Pike Logan Thriller, All Necessary Force is due out January 2012. I am eagerly awaiting it.
“…anyone trying to take this book away from me before I finish shall pull back a bloody stump…This is one wild, fun and unforgettable ride.”
“Taylor has created a true heroine in plucky college student Jennifer. While she’s not in Logan’s league, she knows how to hold her own.”
“I have read many a thriller, posted on plenty of them over the past year, and for a debut it was fun. I would definitely give this author a second read. The characters grew on me as the novel progressed and I enjoyed the look at life he gave us from inside the mind of an operator…Hey G-Man, what about the action? There is plenty of that: the pages just about ooze with blood and explode in your hand as there is plenty of death, explosions, and car chases for even the most hardcore thriller/action fan.”

“This is what makes his debut novel, One Rough Man , so fascinating—Brad Taylor has actually navigated the deep currents of the complex and dangerous waters he writes about. He takes the reader beyond Delta Forces and into the realm of the secretive—out of the box and off the grid. His vehicle is called Taskforce and his hero is a guy named Pike Logan. Think Jack Bauer and Mitch Rapp on steroids, or Jason Bourne—only taller, tougher, and totally unlike Matt Damon.”
—David Stokes, Townall.com , read full review here
“…The deadly duel between Pike and the terrorists is both cerebral and graphically violent… Taylor…brings such incredible realism and authenticity that readers feel like they are looking over the shoulders of a real antiterrorist operation. This will appeal to Brad Thor and Vince Flynn fans.”
“Taylor’s debut flows like the best of Vince Flynn and Brad Thor. An intense and intriguing character, Logan is definitely an action hero to watch.”
“Anyone who admires America’s fighting forces and appreciates a page-turning read as much as I do is sure to find Lieutenant Colonel (ret.) Brad Taylor’s debut thriller exciting. One Rough Man is authentic and gripping.”
—Newt Gingrich, New York Times bestselling author and former Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives
“Brad Taylor’s One Rough Man is an auspicious, adrenaline-soaked rocket ship of a debut novel. Taylor’s protagonist, Pike Logan, is One Rough Man who is one bad dude — as a super-hero, Pike ranks right up there with Jason Bourne, Jack Reacher, and Jack Bauer.”
—John Lescroart, New York Times bestselling author
“Brad Taylor has created a feisty, devil-may-care hero in Pike Logan, a man forced to race not only time, but his own shadowy instincts. A coiling plot, crisp writing, and constant braids of suspense make One Rough Man one exciting debut.”
—Steve Berry, New York Times bestselling author
“One Rough Man is a fast and furious tale with a boots-on-the-ground realism that could only have been evoked by someone who intimately knows combat. Brad Taylor spent decades fighting America’s enemies in the dark corners where they live, and his experience shows. Pike Logan is a tough, appealing hero you’re sure to root for.”
—Joseph Finder, New York Times bestselling author

They call it the Taskforce. Their existence is as essential as it is illegal. Commissioned at the highest level of the U.S. government. Protected from the prying eyes of Congress and the media. Built around the top operators from across the clandestine, intelligence, and special forces landscape. Designed to operate outside the bounds of U.S. law. Trained to exist on the ragged edge of human capability.
Pike Logan was the most successful operator on the Taskforce, his instincts and talents unrivaled-until personal tragedy permanently altered his outlook on the world. Pike knows what the rest of the country might not want to admit: The real threat isn’t from any nation, any government, any terrorist group. The real threat is one or two men, controlled by ideology, operating independently, in possession of a powerful weapon.
Buried in a stack of intercepted chatter is evidence of two such men. The transcripts are scheduled for analysis in three months. The attack is mere days away. It is their bad luck that they’re about to cross paths with Pike Logan. And Pike Logan has nothing left to lose.
The target took a shortcut, unwittingly shaving another four minutes off of life as he knew it. His appearance surprised me, because I had parked in an alley specifically to get out of his line of march, figuring he’d go the long way around the block. He was about fifty feet back and walking at an unhurried pace. A minute later he passed me, unaware of my existence. He was so close that I could have flung open the door and knocked him to the ground. From there, it would have been easy to thump him on the head, throw him in the back, and haul ass. That would have been a bit extreme even for me, so I let him go. Better to stick with the plan.
I keyed the handset of my radio. “All elements, this is Pike. Target just passed by my location and intersected Twenty-second Street. He’s crossing it now.”

Hard rough man in this sense doesn't mean someone who is a wrestler or a street fighter. It could mean that such man is strict, courageous and tough. When someone calls himself a hard rough man, it could be that he has seen life from different perspectives and has survived hell and lakes of fire to become what he is today, so whatever challenge he has today can't really move or shake him because he has experienced worse. Let me give you a short story of a hard rough man. I have a friend who is in his early 30’s and is now a medical doctor . He grew up in a poor home, his parents weren't well t

He grew up in a poor home, his parents weren't well to do and he depended on rich family members for funds or educational assistance. After some years, his parents died and as the first child of 5 , he had to be up and doing to work because his family members disappointed him and told him that there was nothing they could do to help him, so he had to hustle, take care of himself and his siblings, he was a chef, a dispatch rider ,a bartender, a waiter, a gym instructor/personal trainer, an Uber driver, a cleaner, a security guard, went to prison for a crime he didn't commit, came out, did all those jobs listed above to pay his school fees and that of his little siblings and take care of other bills. Now, he is a medical doctor (his story motivates me). His hustle and life experience taught him so many things and opened his eyes to a lot of things. There is no challenge or trial that he can't face boldly or get through, because he has lived life the hard and rough way and his experiences had sharpened him like iron which makes him tough or even tougher than the challenges that come his way. Hard and rough men don't give up when the going gets tough, hard and rough men don't back down, hard and rough men hustle hard, hard and rough men don't let their circumstances define them. He is the definition of a hard and rough man. He is a survivor .

“People sleep peaceably in their beds at night because rough men stand ready to do violence on their behalf.” Is this something Churchill said? I see it frequently credited to him: “We sleep soundly in our beds because rough men stand ready in the night to visit violence on those who would do us harm.” —L.K., Dallas
He did not. From Churchill by Himself , Red Herrings Appendix, 572-73:
”People sleep peaceably in their beds at night only because rough men stand ready to do violence on their behalf.” [Alternative: ”We sleep safely at night because rough men stand ready to visit violence on those who would harm us.”]
We may be fairly confident that Churchill would approve of the sentiment, having argued for a lifetime that liberty and peace can best be maintained by military preparedness, but I have been unable to track this phrase to him. Though it is attributed to Churchill, it is more often assigned to George Orwell . But Wikiquotes suggests it might not be Orwell either: “There is no evidence that Orwell ever wrote or uttered either of these versions of this idea. They do bear some similarity to comments made in an essay that Orwell wrote on Rudyard Kipling .”
It seems to have been coined by the great essayist Richard Grenier in 1993 as his synopsis of Orwell’s position. https://checkyourfact.com/2019/08/09/george-orwell-rough-men/
Binary. Ones and zeros. They will always be good people. There will always be bad people. To insure our species survives, good protectors must halt bad people.
In his 1945 “Notes on Nationalism”, Orwell wrote that pacifists cannot accept the statement “Those who ‘abjure’ violence can do so only because others are committing violence on their behalf.”, despite it being “grossly obvious.”

A post shared on Facebook claims novelist George Orwell once said, “People sleep peacefully in their beds at night only because rough men stand ready to do violence on their behalf.”
While Orwell did express a similar sentiment, he did not write or say the quote in the Facebook post.
George Orwell is the pen name of Eric Arthur Blair, a 20th-century English author best known for writing “ Nineteen Eighty-Four ” and “ Animal Farm .” (RELATED: Did George Orwell Say, ‘Telling The Truth Is A Revolutionary Act’?)
However, nowhere in these works, or any of his others , did the Daily Caller News Foundation find this quote. It does not appear in University College London’s archive of his writings.
“Similar sentiments perhaps, but different language,” said Dorian Lynskey, author of “ The Ministry of Truth: The Biography of George Orwell’s 1984 ,” in an email to the DCNF. “There is no evidence of Orwell writing the quoted sentence.”
Indeed, Orwell did make thematically similar statements. He wrote an essay in 1942 about writer Rudyard Kipling in which he stated, “[Kipling] sees clearly that men can only be highly civilized while other men, inevitably less civilized, are there to guard and feed them.”
In another essay , Orwell included a line with a similar sentiment while discussing pacifists: “Those who ‘abjure’ violence can only do so because others are committing violence on their behalf.”
The website Quote Investigator traced the quote to columnist Richard Grenier’s 1993 article in The Washington Times, where he wrote, “As George Orwell pointed out, people sleep peacefully in their beds at night only because rough men stand ready to do violence on their behalf.”
Some readers likely mistook Grenier’s attempt at summarizing Orwell’s viewpoint for a direct quotation, even though Grenier’s sentence did not enclose the expression in quotation marks.
“This is a known mechanism for the generation of misattributions,” explained Quote Investigator . “Person A summarizes, condenses, or restates the opinion of Person B. At a later time the restatement is directly ascribed to Person B.”
