Rose Byrne had to look the part for her new Apple TV show “Physical,” in which she stars as Sheila, an unhappy 1980s housewife who transforms into an aerobics maven and lifestyle guru — long before influencers made that a regular thing. 
Premiering Friday, June 18, the series takes place over the span of many years, opening in 1986 with a scene of Sheila in a dressing room rocking a bedazzled leotard at the peak of her success, before jumping back in time to her unsatisfying life with her husband in 1981 San Diego.
The show’s costume designer, Kameron Lennox, said she found a number of inspirations for Sheila’s look, ranging from the obvious — Jane Fonda — to the less expected.
“I pulled images of Marisa Berenson. She was a socialite and model at the time and had this very strong, unique, glamorous air to her. Her hair was amazing and she had this amazing sense of style,” Lennox told The Post.  
Although Sheila looks “glamorous and put together” on the surface, her inner thoughts (which Byrne delivers in voiceover) are a toxic stew of self-hate. 
“The idea is that she fools people on the outside,” said Lennox. “She walks in and she looks like the most beautiful person in a room, but it’s a facade. The voices in her head are really so damaging.”
That early 1980s timeframe is why “Physical” doesn’t include some of the typical flashy, graphic style that comes to mind with the world of ’80s aerobics. Despite the title, she shied away from the famous Olivia Newton-John look and embraced a slightly more toned down aesthetic.
“In our show, you’ll never really see that crazy neon thing that you think about when you think about ’80s aerobics. That whole explosion for the look of it didn’t actually happen until later,” said Lennox.
Instead, she focused on dancewear styles that were more authentic to the era.
“I did a deep dive … [Jane Fonda] was teaching these classes in Beverly Hills — and in looking into those, I saw that a lot of people were wearing what they wore to ballet classes. The basic leotards and tights. I also had memories of being a kid and going to aerobics classes with my mom, and [the look] was very subtle.”
Lennox focused on a color palette for Sheila that used “fall tones,” muted reds and pinks to complement Byrne’s rosy skin tone. 
“Her palate is pretty much set in the ’70s,” she said. “1981 isn’t quite ’80s yet. Part of everyone’s look is still in the ’70s. It was before fast fashion; before people were constantly buying things, so a lot of those [color] tones speak to the ’70s. Those warm colors bring you down to sunny Southern California and bring that Berkeley ’60s and ’70s vibe.” 
Lennox said that she did seek out some vintage clothing, but for practical reasons, the workout get-ups had to be made for the show.
“Because it’s 1981, if you even were to find leotards [from that time], the spandex and the materials that they use would have corroded by now. It’s really hard to find a vintage leotard in good condition.”
Lennox, who is also the costume designer on buzzy upcoming Hulu show “Pam & Tommy,” said that even though the gear is new, she tried to stick to materials that she thought Sheila would buy for herself.
“It’s a lot of spandex, of course. There’s some cotton in there, too, and silks … I imagine she’s somebody that would buy nice things for herself to try to make herself feel better.”
But there’s one vintage-friendly material that Lennox would not touch.
“I stayed away from polyester,” she said. “I think it’s cliche to think of the ’80s and think of polyester and all these gross things — I say ‘gross’ because they make you sweat.”

Something went wrong, but don’t fret — let’s give it another shot.

She's spent much of the COVID-19 crisis hunkering down with her family in New York City. 
And life in self-isolation appears to have taken a toll on Rose Byrne's beauty regime, 40, after the actress debuted a very different look on Instagram.
Pouting for a selfie, the Australian star's face was smeared with lipstick and foundation, while her eyebrows were haphazardly drawn on with brown liner.

In the background were the hands of a child who seemed halfway through brushing Rose's messy-looking hair. 
Proving herself the queen of self-deprecation, Rose joked in the caption that she was happy to finally enjoy a pampering session during COVID-19 lockdown. 
'Great to be back in the chair,' she wrote, making sure to tag Hollywood makeup artist Hung Vanngo and hairstylist Harry Josh.

Rose subsequently clarified that her two-year-old son, Rafael, was responsible for her makeup look, writing: 'Rafa was so focused. New talent in town.'

It comes after Rose revealed that she feels grateful for the life she leads - despite living at the 'epicentre' of the coronavirus outbreak.

Speaking to The Daily Telegraph in May, Rose said: 'Yeah, there are challenges but then you read the news for five minutes and think, 'I can't believe what people are going through.''
'Oh my goodness, some of the stories, it's heartbreaking. It makes you realise, "I've really got nothing to complain about."'
The star revealed she's passing the time by watching, 'a lot of Sesame Street and Bluey. We've also been cooking a lot, and we've been doing some homeschooling.'

'You go through stages of cabin fever, but we're lucky to have a place that we can stay in,' she said.

'It's so hard to talk about without sounding like a cliché because it's so much more than that.' 
The famously private couple haven't just raised a family together, but they also have acted alongside each other in multiple films. 
The duo appeared in the 2014 Annie remake as well as the comedy Spy, and they even played a married couple in the 2014 dramedy Adult Beginners.

It's October, we've reached the Halloween season, the time when everyone goes mad for horror – and maybe those of us who are mad for horror all year go a little extra mad. One site that has joined us in getting into the Halloween spirit is Mr. Skin, which specializes in movie nude scenes. They've dug through the horror archives to compile a fun report called Naked & Afraid: Mr. Skin's Ultimate Guide to Hollywood Horror .
In honor of Halloween, MrSkin.com has done a Hollywood horror deep dive in order to answer age old questions like "Which horror franchises have the most nudity?", "How did nudity impact the film's box office?", "The likelihood of surviving in a horror film once you've gone nude?" (39%), And "Which Scream Queens have done the most nudity?," among other important research. In order to determine whether going nude in a horror film means imminent demise, the sexy movie review site watched all of the top 13 horror franchises, 129 movies total, to find out. 
Some fun facts uncovered by the site: 
*Compared to other genres like comedy, drama, action, horror films have featured the least amount of nudity historically
*Jason likes nudity more than Freddy, with 39 nude scenes compared to Nightmare On Elm Street's eight.
*The scream queens who've done the most on-screen nudity include: Jamie Lee Curtis, Linnea Quigley, Debbie Rochon, and Milla Jovavich
*Note to actors: If you're trying to survive in a horror film, don't get naked; 61% of those who went nude died. 20% of them died while nude.

Mr. Skin has ranked the "Horror Franchises with the Most Nudity" (and it's no surprise that WITCHCRAFT was #1), put Freddy and Jason head-to-head again in a battle of nudity and box office, calculated nude character survival rates, checked out scream queen nude scenes… But the surprising part of all of this for me is to find that horror tends to feature less nudity than action, crime, comedy, and drama movies. We need to step up our game.
