Sarah Watson 's ( The Bold Type, Parenthood ) The Goonies re-enactment drama pilot has received a green light from FOX to begin production. The news came on Thursday as part of FOX's announcement that all six of its ordered pilots were moving forward with development, including comedies Pivoting and This Country , and dramas The Big Leap, The Cleaning Lady, Blood Relative , and currently-titled Untitled Film Re-Enactment Project . All projects will be co-productions with Fox Entertainment and their respective original studios, with all six pilots having been written by women.
Written by Watson, directed by Greg Mottola ( Superbad, The Newsroom ), and Ramon Rodriguez ( Gang Related ) previously announced as joining the cast, the network pilot focuses on a substitute teacher who helps students film a shot-by-shot remake of 1985's The Goonies and stems from Warner Bros. TV, FOX's SideCar, and Amblin TV. Mottola is set to executive produce alongside SideCar's Gail Berman, Lauren Shuler Donner, Richard Donner , and Amblin's Justin Falvey and Darryl Frank . Steven Spielberg and Donner's adventure-comedy film was originally released in 1985, growing a strong following over the years and securing a prominent place on the pop culture landscape. Sean Astin, Josh Brolin, Corey Feldman, Martha Plimpton, Joe Pantoliano, Jeff Cohen , and Jonathan Ke Huy Quan starred in the film.
Here's a look at the official logline for the pilot: "After failing to make it in New York and carrying a heavy secret with her, Stella Cooper returns to her distressed automotive hometown to substitute teach. She finds inspiration, hope, and ultimately salvation when she agrees to help three students who are pursuing their filmmaking dreams by putting on an impossibly ambitious shot-for-shot remake of one of the student's favorite movies, The Goonies. Over the course of the season, their passion will inspire a town in desperate need of hope in this love letter to the power of cinema, storytelling, and dreams."
Rodriguez's Jax is a former Marine who owns the local hardware store in the small town of Ridgeville. Jax has a mysterious background and is one of the few people in town that didn't grow up there. Jax bonds with Stella, who has just returned home after 14 years away and he has a soft spot for Collin and his friends, who frequent his store to support all their adventures.

In late August, Marine Jarrod Haschert went viral with a very special request. It would "make his dream come true, " he said, if MMA fighter Ronda Rousey attended his upcoming Marine Corps Ball.
More than five million views later, the invitation reached Rousey, and in September she accepted .
Now, the December 11 Ball has come and gone, and Rousey has kept her word.
On Sunday, the 28-year-old posted a picture of she and Haschert at the event, the two looking sharp and smiling wide.

"Thank you Lance Cpl. Jarrod Haschert for taking me to the Marine Corps Ball, being such a gentleman," she wrote , "and putting a smile on my face again."
After Rousey's devastating loss to fellow fighter Holly Holm in Australia November 15, it was clear to all that she needed some down time.
"I'm just really f*cking sad," the previously undefeated champ told ESPN of the fight's conclusion.
But it sounds like a date with Haschert was just what she needed.
