Romario Shepherd Shines as West Indies Defeat Australia in Thrilling T20 Clash

Romario Shepherd delivered a match-winning performance as the West Indies secured a dramatic victory over Australia in the second T20 International at Sabina Park. The all-rounder’s explosive batting and disciplined bowling proved pivotal in a tense finish, giving the Caribbean side a 2-0 lead in the five-match series.

Shepherd’s Late Heroics with the Bat

Chasing a competitive target of 178, the West Indies found themselves in trouble at 145/6 in the 18th over. However, Shepherd, known for his power-hitting, turned the game on its head with a blistering 27* off just 12 balls, including three towering sixes. His partnership with captain Rovman Powell (28*) ensured the hosts crossed the line with four balls to spare.

'I just backed myself and trusted my ability,' Shepherd said in the post-match interview. 'The team needed a big finish, and I’m glad I could contribute.'

Earlier in the match, the 29-year-old Guyanese cricketer also made an impact with the ball, taking 2/31 in his four overs. His crucial dismissals of Tim David and Matthew Wade restricted Australia from posting an even bigger total.

Shepherd’s rise as a dependable all-rounder has been a bright spot for West Indies cricket. Since making his international debut in 2021, he has become a key player in the T20 setup, known for his death bowling and lower-order hitting.
