Romania is closing the Russian Consulate General in Constanta.

This was stated by Romanian President Nicusor Dan after a meeting of the Supreme National Defense Council.

According to him, the Consul General of Russia in Constanta, Andrei Kosilin, has been declared persona non grata and will have to leave the country.

"The Consul General of Russia in Constanta has been declared persona non grata, the consulate will be closed,"

Dan said.

The decision was announced against the background of the incident with a drone that fell on an apartment building in Galac, Romania. Earlier, the Romanian Foreign Ministry said that the device was Russian and participated in an attack on infrastructure facilities in Ukraine, after which it entered Romanian airspace.

Bucharest regarded this as a serious violation of international law and the country's airspace.

Dan also said that Romania is discussing with the United States and the United Kingdom the acceleration of production, testing and supply of anti-drone equipment, as well as air defense systems.

According to the Romanian president, some of the equipment has already arrived in the country, the rest should arrive later. In addition, Bucharest has bilateral agreements and agreements within the framework of NATO on the deployment of appropriate funds on Romanian territory.

Dan said that in a conversation with NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte, he insisted on speeding up this process. According to him, Rutte agreed on the need to deliver such equipment to Romania as soon as possible.

Civil protection issues were also discussed at the meeting of the Supreme Council of National Defense. The Romanian President noted that the response of the services after the overnight incident was quick, and the Minister of the Interior presented a corresponding report.
