Rockshox Mag 21 Solo Air Modification
The Mag 21 has a really bogus air spring fill method. You basically use a fill needle to penetrate the top of the damping adjuster. In the damping adjuster there is a rubber pellet that is supposed to ...
Fork with 215mm steerer, starnut installed and v-brake bosses weighs 1318g.
Have just done a complete service of a SID XC 2001 that I got for my next kids bike project. I don't think this thing has ever had a service. The damper oil looked like this:
There really is not much that's decent when it comes to 20" kids forks.ย Most are heavy, oversprung and crappy performing el-cheapo forks. There are, however, a few good options:
The inner diameter of the stanchions on this fork mean that the dampers out of SID A (80-100mm) forks will work.ย Indeed, I have used a SID XX damper in the 2009 Rockshox Recon SL Solo Air and it worked flawlessly. This means, that for an older fork like the Recon, it is possible to upgrade the damper to the latest and greatest offered in the SID (and probably) forks.
Great way to give old forks a new lease of life.

It seems like RockShox can't do anything wrong at the moment, and it's the same story with its mid-level Recon fork. It uses the same 32mm legged bottom end as the Revelation fork, which means it's pretty stiff and extremely well sealed.

It seems like RockShox canโt do anything wrong at the moment, and itโs the same story again with its mid-level Recon fork. It uses the same 32mm legged bottom end as the more expensive Revelation fork, which means itโs pretty stiff and extremely well sealed.
Like all current RS forks, it smooths out nicely after a few rides and then seems utterly oblivious to any weather conditions or heavy use, running butter smooth even with minimal maintenance. The Solo Air has just a single air spring, but that makes setup nice and easy. The simple rebound damping is externally adjustable too, and you need to work the fork hard to leave it wanting. Compared to the Revelation, a steel steerer tube and different crown makes it 100g heavier, but for the money itโs a superb fork. The 351 coil version with 85-130mm U-Turn and Motion Control damping is a blinder for just ยฃ220 as well.
