Rockies Stumble Against Phillies in High-Scoring Clash at Citizens Bank Park

Philadelphia, PA – April 3, 2025 – The Colorado Rockies fell short in a high-octane offensive battle against the Philadelphia Phillies, losing 9-6 in the series opener at Citizens Bank Park on Wednesday night. Despite a late rally, Colorado’s pitching struggles proved costly as the Phillies’ lineup delivered key hits to secure the win.

Phillies’ Offense Explodes Early

Philadelphia wasted no time putting runs on the board, tagging Rockies starter Kyle Freeland for five runs in the first two innings. Bryce Harper led the charge with a two-run homer in the first, while Trea Turner added an RBI double in the second. Freeland lasted just 3.2 innings, surrendering seven earned runs on nine hits before being pulled.

The Rockies’ bullpen couldn’t contain the damage, as Nick Castellanos blasted a solo shot in the fifth to extend Philadelphia’s lead to 8-2.

Rockies Fight Back, Fall Short

Colorado’s offense showed life in the middle innings, with Brenton Doyle launching a two-run homer in the fourth and Elias Díaz driving in a run with a double in the sixth. A late two-run single by Ryan McMahon in the eighth cut the deficit to 9-6, but Phillies closer José Alvarado shut the door in the ninth to seal the victory.

Phillies starter Zack Wheeler earned the win despite allowing four runs over six innings, while Freeland took the loss.
