The most effective robot vacuum will sweep and vacuum your floors without your involvement. It also leaves clean. Its low cost and high-end features (such as dirt detection) are a plus.

1. Roomba Q5 pro
The Q5 Pro and its sibling, the pricier Q7 Max Series, are among the most powerful robot vacuums we've test. They are equipped with top-of-the-line motors which can generate up to 5,500 Pascals of suction force. Like other premium iRobots (including the most powerful model) they employ smart mapping to create detailed floorplans and avoid household obstacles like cords and furniture leg. The robots also come with the feature of Carpet Boost that increases its power when it detects dirt on the carpet.
The Q5 and Q7 Max Series both scored extremely well in our tests of floors with no carpet, and they are particularly adept at cleaning hair from dogs. They do have some flaws however, which hinder them from being our top choice. One of the Q5's shortcomings is its navigation system does not feature AI-powered obstacles avoidance. It's thus susceptible to become stuck on socks and shoes and couldn't navigate through rooms with a lot of people well during our tests. It also doesn't have a camera that would let it see the corners of an area.
However, it's a good choice for those who want to save money on an Roomba from iRobot, and you have a mostly bare-floor home or office. It's also very quiet and you can use it while you're at work or at school. The only thing it lacks that you don't get in the more expensive iRobot Roomba X30 is edge-to-edge vacuuming of floors with no floor. It's also less effective in mopping, relying on disposable wet wipes that don't stay on well and aren't able to take on dried-on debris. The Q5 has a self-emptying cradle however. If you need to, the mopping pad can be replaced with one that is wet in just a few seconds.
2. iRobot Roomba X30
The iRobot Roomba X30 is a compact elegant vacuum cleaner that can also mop floors. Its intelligent cleaning maps and quick navigation make it easy to clean, and effective in tackling larger particles like pet hair. It also features self-emptying dustbins with powerful suction and support for virtual boundaries. It's the best robotic hoover for carpets but it isn't as effective as some of its competitors in terms of deep cleaning.
This high-performance vacuum and mop uses sensor technology that can stay clear of obstacles and pet waste. It also learns the patterns of your home over time to provide better cleaning. The app allows you to modify zones and alter the cleaning schedule. It has a battery lifespan that is similar to other models.
When the X30 Ultra is in a carpeted area, you can instruct it to take off and extend its mops. This will help prevent cross contamination. The flex arm is perfect for getting under low-lying furniture and along baseboards. However, it doesn't have the same washboard performance as our other Editors' Choice picks, the Ecovacs Deebot Ozmo N8 Pro+ and the iRobot Combo j9+.
During tests during testing, the X30 Ultra was the fastest robot vacuum/mop in the market to clean an entire house, finishing with only 66 percent of its battery left. It did a great cleaning job on different rooms and floors with various flooring types, including some area carpets. Its obstacle detection was top notch, and it nimbly avoided fake dog socks, turds, shoes, and bundles of cables.
It's more expensive than the iRobot Combo v9+ and iRobot Roomba j9+, however it offers superior suction, a built-in dust bin that automatically fills up its base, and supports voice commands through Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. It can even clean the floor after vacuuming, a feature that we've not seen on other robot vacuum/mop combinations.
3. Roomba X40 from iRobot
With a sleek, circular design that looks more like a regular Roomba than the competition's boxes this robot vacuum and mop combo is among the most attractive designs in our reviews. The latest model from iRobot is also among its most advanced. It features advanced features such as Enhanced Dirt Detection as well as future compatibility (another company’s robot that can wash mop pads on its own).
It's the only robotic vacuum/mop that has an exemplary 10/10 in our testing, thanks to a combination of high-tech sensors, including cameras, a structured light system, and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra was the only robot we tested that could fill and empty its basestation on its own. It also boasted a suction of 12,000Pa and self-cleaning mop mops.
Like other iRobot models as well, the X40 is user-friendly, offering an intuitive mobile app interface and integration with Amazon Alexa, Apple HomeKit as well as Google Assistant. The only drawback is that it's loud that could be a problem if you run it in the morning prior to work or at night as you try to sleep.
It's also a bit costly but not as much as the Ecovacs MaxV Ultra or Roborock S8 Omni, which are equally powerful and more attractive. This is a two-in-one vacuum that is very efficient, but it's going to cost you more and create more noise.
4. iRobot Roomba L20 Ultra
The L20 Ultra is the top-of-the line robot mop and vacuum. It has a range of advanced features that help you forget your chores. Like Ecovacs' range-topping X2 Omni and Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra, the L20 is designed to be a hands-free cleaning machine that can take the care of mopping and vacuuming. It comes with a multifunction dock that automatically empties the vacuum's trash bin, refills its water tank, cleans and dry its mop pads.
The smart robot utilizes LIDAR and structured lighting to create floor plans and spot obstacles. It is more efficient in its navigation than its premium competitors. It also has a front mounted camera for real-time hazards detection, though this wasn't 100% reliable in our tests and was sometimes confused with obstructions or power cords.
The vacuum cleaner has a maximum suction of 7,000 Pascals which is more than enough to accomplish the task. It also has "Intelligent Dirt Detection", which regulates the intensity at which the vacuum works and adjusts the frequency of cleaning for different areas of the home according to the degree of dirt they tend to be.
If you have a larger home, you should consider selecting a model with a zones or spot cleaning modes. This allows you to inform the robot of which area of your home needs to be cleaned by using the app or voice command. If you have lots of furniture, a stair-mode is also a good option. Finally the recharge and resume function that allows your robot vacuum to take over exactly where it left off is great for busy families.
5. iRobot Roomba RX3
The RX3 is a more efficient cleaner than you would think from its price. It has a great vacuuming performance and was able to remove 55% of debris in our tests. (It was only second to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mopses with a single pad that uses a reciprocating motion that cleans better than most of the other robot mop cleaners we've tested. It's also self-sufficient with a full-featured app and a self emptying base that can be washed.
The iRobot app is designed to help you navigate an exercise in mapping which collects information about your floorplan as well as any "no go" areas that you have marked on the map. It can be used to make cleaning schedules, arrange an area for cleaning or to prioritise your dirtiest rooms for better performance. The app comes with a variety of features, including seasonal suggestions, customized mapping, and advanced cleaning settings.
It is also able to reach corners and under furniture better because its shape is more rectangular. It has a powerful 8,000 Pascal suction as well as sophisticated combs that remove pet hair. It also has the ability to set up a spot cleaning that scours a specific area.
The Miele Scout RX3 Home Vision HD offers a sleeker and less expensive alternative to iRobot Roomba. It is more appealing in its design, akin to Dolce & Gabbana.
