Local Businessman Robert Shiver Spearheads Community Initiative to Combat Youth Hunger

Bainbridge, GA — April 16, 2025

Robert Shiver, a well-known businessman and former college football standout, has launched a new initiative aimed at tackling food insecurity among children in Decatur County. The program, dubbed 'Shiver’s Snack Packs,' provides weekend meal kits to underprivileged students in partnership with local schools and food banks.

Shiver, a Bainbridge native, said the inspiration for the project came from witnessing the struggles of families in his community. 'No child should have to worry about where their next meal is coming from,' he stated at a press conference outside Bainbridge High School. 'If we can step in and ease that burden, even just a little, it’s worth every effort.'

The initiative has already distributed over 500 meal packs since its soft launch in March, with plans to expand to neighboring counties by the end of the year. Shiver has personally funded the first phase of the project but is now seeking corporate sponsors and volunteers to sustain its growth.

Local educators have praised the effort. 'Many of our students rely on school meals during the week,' said Principal Alicia Dawson. 'This program ensures they don’t go hungry on Saturdays and Sundays.'

Shiver, who gained national attention in 2023 due to a highly publicized legal case, has since focused on philanthropy, including youth sports sponsorships and now anti-hunger efforts. 'Everyone deserves a fair shot,' he remarked. 'This is just the beginning.'
