U.S. Attorney’s Office Shuts Down Website Promoting Prostitution and Sex Trafficking, Indicts Owner
The website CityXGuide.com — a leading source of online advertisements for prostitution and sex trafficking that users described as “taking over from where Backpage left off” — has been seized and its owner charged in a 28-count federal indictment.

Riverside, CA – Over the last several years, detectives assigned to the Riverside Police Department’s Vice Unit have investigated numerous reports involving prostitution and sex trafficking, some of which involved victims, including juveniles, being sexually exploited.

The number of juveniles involved in prostitution is continually increasing, in large part due to websites like “CityXGuide,” which promotes prostitution and sex trafficking. In June 2020, the U.S. Department of Homeland Security seized the “CityXGuide” website and charged the owner in a 28-count federal indictment for various charges that included promotion and reckless disregard of sex trafficking, interstate racketeering and facilitating prostitution, interstate transportation in aid of racketeering and facilitating prostitution, as well as numerous counts of money laundering. Although this may be a victory in the efforts to combat online juvenile prostitution, there are still other active websites that accommodate and promote the illegal sex trade. In our own efforts to combat online juvenile prostitution, the Riverside Police Department’s Vice Unit developed “Operation John-B-Gone.” It was created specifically to target sex purchasers, who are more commonly referred to as “Johns,” and solicit a person for the purpose of prostitution. During the course of an 18-month period, 22 male suspects were arrested and booked into jail for felony and misdemeanor charges that included contacting a minor with intent to commit a felony, arranging a meeting with a minor for lewd purposes, and solicitation of prostitution of a minor. Charges have since been filed by the Riverside County District Attorney’s Office.
