Hello Doctors,

I would just like to say that we all appreciate the time and energy you have all spent in answering our questions and making our concerns more relevant to what's deemed "risky".

A little background: I am very adamant about safe sex and staying HIV negative... to the point where one may counter it with obsessive compulsive.  I met this guy on a dating site about 48 hours ago.  We met, we talked and I asked him when his last HIV test was. He said three months ago, negative.  We started kissing for a while, then went on to a little more.  I sucked him off for about a minute and he sucked me off after for about 5 minutes.  After that, I rimmed him (I licked/sucked/ kissed his anus) followed by fingering him, meaning sticking my index finger all the way into his anus.  I did that a few times.  After I fingered him, I immediately went to the bathroom and washed my finger with warm water and soap. There were no visible cuts on my finger. I put on sanitizer on my finger as well to "feel" the burn when you put sanitizer on unbroken skin, but felt no "burn".  So, I am confident that I had intact skin on that finger.

To no avail, I get paranoid and go to a clinic in Los Angeles to seek advice from a PEP nurse.  She told me no need to warrant PEP since I had no risk to HIV...She said that if those were common modes of transmission, then you would see a whole lot more people with HIV, as those acts are pretty commonplace amongst both the LGBT and straight communities.

I asked the guy yesterday if he would want to get tested with me and he said the following: "Listen, I am HIV negative for sure... I respect you want to get tested together, but I feel that's a personal thing and would rather do it alone..." I understand what he means, but why would he want to get it alone if he is "for sure" HIV negative?

See, this is what I'm talking about being OCD with HIV. I guess since a young age we have been engrained with HIV prevention and it's taken what is innocuous to providing a fear and mitigating the pleasure of being with someone out of my life.

But today, 48 hours after my "experience", I have an extreme sore throat, does this mean anything?
My questions are delineated below per the experience listed above:

1) Fingering the anus and risk for HIV acquisition?  How likely is this as a mode of transmission? Have there been reported cases?

2) Me performing a rim job on him and my likelihood of contracting the virus? I did have a cut on my lip, but I think it may have scabbed.

3) Oral sex, I know to be low to no risk for HIV, so I'm actually not worried about that incident.

4) Would you recommend PEP despite what I heard from the PEP nurse?

and lastly

5) Is my current sore throat an HIV symptom? Even though symptoms should never be used for HIV diagnosis.

Thank you once again, and I am very appreciative of a response.

Agreed.  I do recognize I have a problem with this... Me being scared and paranoid has literally taken the fun out of sex and is getting the way of my life.  But I do appreciate your feedback. It's just something about reassurance that I need.  Thanks again and have a blessed day!

1) You were told by a nurse yet your still coming here for info? No risk
2) No risk
3) No risk
4) Never. PEP is reserved for people who have a high risk encounter (unprotected sex with someone to be HIV+)
5) No

I suggest maybe seeking a therapist to help you out. Because a nurse tells you something yet your looking for for reassurance and I doubt that my answers will give you the peace of mind you seek.

There's more than one way to get a PhD in analingus.
Once considered taboo, the rim job (a.k.a. rimming, analingus, peach-munching, eating the booty like groceries, etc.) is becoming a more mainstream sexual act. There are various reasons why that might be the case: It may be due to increased visibility through porn, references to rim jobs in popular culture, or the fact that even The Bachelorette is talking about sex positivity these days. Whatever the reason may be, it's great that more people are feeling empowered to try rimming—because let's be real: It feels great, regardless of your sex, gender, or sexual orientation.
“This region of your butt is a highly erogenous zone with a plethora of nerve endings,” Dr. Evan Goldstein , founder and CEO of Bespoke Surgical and The Future Method , previously told Men's Health . "The sensations are indescribable, though most people compare it to having their most sensitive and ticklish areas kissed or licked.”
If you’ve never performed a rim job before and are looking for a plethora of basic analingus tips, you might want to read our full explainer on how to eat ass like a pro . But if you already know what to do and you’re just looking for the most pleasurable positions to rim in—i.e., positions that don’t strain your neck or, you know, put you at risk for asphyxiation under your partner's butt cheeks—then keep reading. We compiled a list of the best positions for rimming, so you can feast like a goddamn king.
The most classic position for rimming is probably doggy style. Not only is the booty super accessible, but when you're done rimming, you’re already in the perfect position to have anal sex .
Variation: If doggy style puts the receiver's booty at an awkward height for the giver, the receiver can try laying flat on their stomach and spreading their cheeks.
Another common position is when the receiver is on their back with their legs bent in the air. If they're an expert contortionist, they can even bend their legs behind their head.
Variation : You can use a sex pillow to prop up the receiver's pelvis, so the giver doesn't tire out their neck from that strenuous angle.
“Face-sitting is also fun to explore, but can be challenging for both the giver and the receiver,” Luna Matatas , a sex and pleasure educator, previously told Men's Health . “Prop up your head with a pillow to bring your face closer to their anus. The person being rimmed can use a bed or a wall to help balance their weight off their knees and thighs."
You can also do a reverse face-sit, where the receiver is sitting on the giver's face but they’re facing away from them. This position is popular among guys who love to be completely smothered by booty, to the point where consensual breath play can even take place.
While the giver of the rim job eats their partner's booty, the rim rob receiver can perform oral sex on their junk! It’s a win-win.
