" Ridin' Solo " is the third single from Jason Derulo 's self-titled debut album , produced by J.R. Rotem . The demo originally sampled " Bitter Sweet Symphony " by the Verve , but the sample was not cleared and was subsequently replaced with electronic motifs which are featured throughout the entire song. [1]
On May 16, 2010, "Ridin' Solo" became Derulo's third consecutive top three hit on the UK Singles Chart . It is his third consecutive number-one hit on the UK R&B Chart and third consecutive top ten hit on the US Billboard Hot 100 .
The song has received generally mixed reviews from critics. Fraser McAlpine of BBC Chart Blog gave the song a rating of three stars out of five and went to say that "Jason clearly doesn't have a lisp, his sibilants hiss out from every other word in the song. And he delivers them all perfectly. Nice work otherwise. [2]
Idolator said that "Derulo knows how to get the public interested in the hip-hop star again—follow every trend there is". [3] Robert Copsey from Digital Spy gave "Ridin' Solo" three out of five stars and wrote that it "is still another catchy, engaging effort that should keep Derulo near the top on both sides of the pond". [4]
As of April 23, 2014 the single has sold over 3 million digital copies in the US, making it Derulo's third consecutive song to sell more than 3 million copies. [5]
The music video for "Ridin' Solo" was released on May 2, 2010, directed by Scott Speer . The video depicts Derulo singing about being single after breaking up with his girlfriend. In the first 15 seconds of the video, Derulo is playing a piano and singing "Blind", which is a track of his debut album, with a photo of his ex-girlfriend on the top of the piano. Derulo features in several scenes shot at Lot 613, including one in a nightclub , several in a Honda CR-Z and his dancing, (at times with backup dancers) on a moving floor (which are actually hidden conveyor belts) in front of a big, colorful LED screen flashing and glowing, sometimes reading "Solo" in block letters. Derulo wears a white jacket with spikes on the sleeves throughout the video in different scenes.
In one of the nightclub scenes filmed at Lot 613, a group of girls are seen to be chatting on PlentyofFish (an Internet dating website) on an iPad which was first released.
There is a slight difference between the music video and the album version of the song; in the video the line "You told me get my shit together, now I got my shit together, oh" uncensored on the track is replaced by "You told me get myself together, now I got myself together, oh". Some areas of the instrumental have also been altered slightly and it is a few seconds shorter than the album version. This version is also used on many radio stations across the UK. Another radio edit exists which is similar to the video version, except it mutes the explicit lyrics rather than just replace them with other words.
In April 2012, "Ridin' Solo" was covered by MC Chris and included on his 2012 mixtape Apple Lung with the lyrics changed to " I'm Han Solo ", a song created for the 2012 video game Kinect Star Wars , which inspired Aaron Fraser-Nash's own parody in 2018. [6] [7] The Station parodied "Ridin' Solo" on YouTube as "No Homo". [8]

Actually a 4.5. Always round up. Well written no editing issues. Good story with fun and likeable characters. The h could be a little annoying with her strict and rigid personality but not too badly Her sisters were a hoot and I can just imagine their stories The H was likeable and just loved getting under the h skin. A perfect foil for her. Enjoyable few hours of light reading
Wyatt and Oakley are wonderful together. He has so many secrets and she is the one worth revealing his heart to. Loved his sister too.

When you pick up a Marika Ray book you are rewarded with laugh-out-loud antics, characters you want to be friends with, and a romantic, happily ever after. Her new “Sisters From Hell” series features the four Waldo sisters and the men who are brave enough to fall in love with them. Oakley Waldo was proud to have achieved the rank of Captain in the Sheriff’s department and she took her job very seriously. There was no room for error and she definitely didn’t want any distractions. She enjoyed patrolling the county by herself where she could make her own rules while keeping everyone safe. When she laid eyes on her new partner, Wyatt, she knew that her shifts at work were going to be very interesting. Wyatt looked like he could pose for a law enforcement charity calendar with his sexy grin and amazing body. Most women would jump at the chance to be partners with Wyatt, but Oakely wasn’t so sure. She was all business but Wyatt did have a playful side that she tried to ignore, but secretly liked. Her job and her family were her life and she would never mix business with pleasure. Wyatt was an excellent partner and always had her back, but she had a feeling that he wasn’t completely honest with her. As a police officer, you need to be able to trust your partner because you never know what will come your way when you are dispatched to a crime scene. One wrong move could change your life forever. As Oakley got to know Wyatt she realized that he could be more than just her partner if she let him in and showed him the woman behind the badge. Are Oakley and Wyatt destined to be partners forever or will the pressures of their jobs send them speeding down the highway in different directions?
I knew I needed to read this series after the "Jobs from Hell" series. I enjoyed Amelia and Titus' story (Unfriend Me) so much, I knew I would enjoy reading her sisters' stories too. The Waldo sisters are really entertaining, and I loved how competent and capable Oakley is, and how successfully she handles her life. Their sisterhood is written well and I loved the support system in this family. Wyatt is a good match for her and their connection is pretty steamy! I appreciate how this couple found their HEA. He's a good "book boyfriend". I recommend this book, series and author. I look forward to reading Esme's story next.
Ridin' Solo by Marika Ray is book one in the "Sisters from Hell" series. This was a fun read. Oakley is a rule follower and it makes her a damn good cop, in fact, she is Captain of her department. Wyatt is looking forward to proving he is more than his past would dictate. Can he do that and still be the partner that Oakley deserves? Read Ridin' Solo by Marika Ray to find out.

I was honoured to get an advance copy of this book and this is my honest review. Captain Oakley Waldo knew she was in trouble when she met her new partner in the form of Lieutenant Wyatt Smith!! (One of my favourite quotes....) 🔥🥵"Partners shouldn't be handsome. They should be capable. Dependable. An extension of one's self. Jesus Christ. This guy was the one the called up to be in a cop calendar twirling a pair of handcuffs on his... but I digress"🥵🔥 Oakley didn't get to where she was in her job by not playing by the rules. After getting a surprise present from her Sister which was brought from The Hardware Store, Oakley thought she would make the most of this 'in every way possible!!' There are so many hilarious quotes in this book. There are 2 types of books 1) The ones you like and are happy to read again and again. Then there are the books..... 2) These are the ones where you want to LIVE within the story because you love the characters, locations and the general craziness of all that happens. This book DEFINITELY falls into the 2nd category I want to live in Auburn Hill!!
I was so excited to be back in Auburn Hill and this time with the Waldo sisters! What better way to start the series than with Oakley, the oldest of the Waldo sisters! Captain at the local sheriff's department, doesn't stand any nonsense from anyone, you will absolutely love her! Oakley is currently Ridin' Solo in work and in her private life and that suits her fine until she gets a new partner at work in the form of one Wyatt Smith who wouldn't be out of place in one of those cop calendars! Wyatt first day on the job isn't one he is going to forget in a while his partner trying to lasso a bull is just a small part of the day.........wait until he meets his new neighbour! Wyatt and Oakley have an insta connection and attraction even though Oakley trys to deny it there really is no way they can deny the hot, steamy, sexual tension. Ridin' Solo is Rom-Com perfection! I was only a few chapters in and I was weak from laughing! You will adore Oakley and Wyatt!
